A few years ago, we featured a truly well-made video that recorded Pokemon as if they were real animals in a national geographical documentary. Since then, the genre has really been separated on YouTube. Recent uploads are about Doduo and it’s too good not to share them.
The fifth video in Kai’s expanded Pokéalus series follows a flock of Doduo as they travel through the giant desert in search of cool climates. When the lonely Doduo is lost from colonial safety, Pokéalus is there to dramatize how to protect the hard data from the Pokédex series in the game, combined with hard data with big imagination, from predators.
As salt-worthy Pokemon fans should know, Doduo makes up for the lack of powerful legs and second head wings. Sadly, the odd bird’s speed forces Doduo to rely on extraordinary measures to escape, being removed from the equation when a pair of predatory Sandils ambush it. I’m torn between explaining exactly what happens and having the video talk yourself, but I think spoiler-free is the best way to experience this absurd animation.
Before aiming at Doduo, the expanded Kai had previously produced Pokéarth installments on Clodsire, Magikarp, Spheal, and Wailord, all of which were meticulous in introducing a bit of humor to make each Pokémon unique, dry out the depiction completely and not straighten it. I enjoy the slow, bouncy blows traded by everyone, especially the two men Crodsia, who are fighting their peers. But I said that before, so I say it again: Koffing, please.
