Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has only been released for 24 hours, but players are already enjoying the nostalgia-fueled gameplay. It’s bugs and everything.
All veteran Bethesda fans know that the studio’s games come with a generous Yank population. First released in 2006, Oblivion is one of the main perpetrators, with objects flying everywhere and characters getting insufficient (but often hilarious) interjects, and thing It happens in the context of what was happening in the foreground, and in the background that it was the perfect meme material.
Almost 20 years later, Bethesda’s remaster (and it’s claimed, not a remake) has, as Todd Howard said, all the “charm” of the original. And that doesn’t matter. In fact, it’s the exact opposite.
“Oblivion is back” is what the remaster players say in response to something that is somehow wrong, or they’re doing the Bethesda game where random NPC faces steal scenes.
Even glitch players exploited in the original forgetting are known to work in remasters.

And players are recreating the oblivion memes, trying to regain the hilarity of the game’s NPC behavior, as they did years ago.

None of Remastered’s Jank’s Forgetfulness has seriously affected the game’s players’ enjoyment. For some, it provides a warm and friendly atmosphere. Can you imagine the game stripped away all of this? It would feel like… soulless, somehow, and the original fan remembers fondly. Perhaps such attention to polish is best reserved for the Elder Scrolls VI.
Bugs, glitches, and memes are just one aspect of Oblivion Remastered’s success. This led players to come up with cheerful, nightmare faces using character creators. Also, despite the remastering of Oblivion, which is not officially supported, there are already a large number of mods available.
And it really looks like forgetting is a hit. On Steam, we enjoyed an impressive peak number of simultaneous players, over 180,000 on the release date. This is set to increase as the game increases towards the first weekend of sale.
