Game Science’s debut AAA game sets out a record, but there are no words yet about sequels or expansion plans.
There’s no denying how much impact Black Myth had when Wukong was released. Not only did the HTE games have skyrocketed to the top of the charts, but they have also proven that Chinese game makers can bear attractively with the best attitude in the West when it comes to offering AAA.
But there’s another thing that turmeric managed to do something that people don’t know.
The physical sales of the Black Myth Wucon did very well so helped the store throughout the 2024 holiday
The incredible performance of Black Myth Wukong’s retail performance was shared by PM Studios CEO Mike Yum in a chat with sister site Thegamer. PM Studios is the physics publisher of games that were first released digitally on PS5 and PC.
Yam couldn’t reveal sales figures, but he noted that it was still doing well. “I wish I could reveal the numbers, but those people (game science) are very private and I respect that. But it shows me and all my distributors and partners and retailers are still very healthy,” Yum said.
The physical sales of turmeric in the black myth were very helpful, so Yam said it helped several stores to float. “I got a lot of calls during Christmas and after the New Year, after thanking me and saying that it saved their business.”
While physical sales in the US may not be as big as they once were, it remains the entertainment media chosen by many countries. Yam acknowledged the importance of physical releases, saying, “It was a huge hit in certain countries like Spain and Italy, and I didn’t know why. Where they don’t have advanced internet technology yet, they don’t download 100 gigabytes of disks per data.
Some might think that black mythical turmeric just appealed to China given its story and setting, but that doesn’t seem to be too much. Earlier this year, Game Science, a game developer, shared that over 30% of black myths are outside of China. There is no official sales data announced by Game Science, but based on data from the research company, it will charge over 7 million units of non-China sales in February.
Black Myth Wukong was released for PS5 and PC on August 20th and was Game Science’s debut AAA console game. From the beginning, it blew past games away and established a new steam record.
There’s nothing if you’ve got a sequel or an extension, but if you learn more, you’ll let your readers know.
