Leaks has been talking with Tencent in recent months, with Ubisoft launching new ventures on some of the former’s biggest properties, claiming the latter is investing a significant amount of money. It is now officially announced.
Ubisoft is establishing the headquarters of its new subsidiary in France, which will receive an investment of 1.16 billion euros from Tencent in exchange for a 25% minority stake. The new subsidiary, which has not yet been named, will oversee, manage and promote Ubisoft’s three biggest properties. The beliefs of assassins are far away, and Rainbow Six.
The subsidiary has a “worldwide, exclusive, exclusive, indiscriminate, perpetual” license surrounding these three properties, including all games released and all future games. Under a dedicated leadership team and board of directors, the subsidiary, according to Ubisoft, “makes rapid and impactful decisions across development, marketing and distribution, ensuring that these brands continue to evolve, attract new audiences and deliver groundbreaking gaming experiences for years to come.”
The company says the new subsidiary will “focus on building a gaming ecosystem designed to be truly evergreen and multi-platform,” and thanks to “larger investments and increased creative capabilities,” it will “encourage further improvements in the quality of the story’s solo experience and expand the expansion of multiplayer that will increase the frequency of content releases.”
“Today, Ubisoft is opening a new chapter in its history,” says Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “As we accelerate our company’s transformation, this is a fundamental step to changing Ubisoft’s operating model, allowing us to be agile and ambitious. We are focused on building a powerful gaming ecosystem designed to be evergreen, growing high-performance brands, and creating new IPSs with cutting-edge and emerging technologies.
“By developing the three biggest franchises and creating a dedicated subsidiary that will spearhead Tencent’s onboarding as a minority investor, we will promote the value of our assets, strengthen our balance sheets and create the best conditions for the long-term growth and success of these franchises.
“We are committed to taking the brand to the next level and leading innovation with talented teams taking the brand to the next level, accelerating the growth of emerging franchises, leading the next generation of technology and service innovation, everything exceeds the expectations of players and creates outstanding value for shareholders and other shareholders.”
“We are excited to expand our long-standing partnership with Ubisoft through this investment, which will promote sustainable success in the industry, reflecting Ubisoft’s creative vision and continued confidence in talent excellence,” says Tencent President Martin Lau. “We believe these franchises have great potential to evolve into long-term evergreen gaming platforms and create new experiences that are engaging for gamers.”
Ubisoft itself continues to oversee and manage other properties it owns. Ghost Recon, Department, Rayman, others. The company will also continue to work on new IPs and “providing cutting-edge production game engines and online services.”
Ubisoft said the deal will be finalised by the end of 2025 and stay tuned as it reveals details about the new subsidiary and how it itself (Ubisoft itself) will work at a later date.
