Rockstar Games confirmed what we’ve been thinking: Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be released in 2025. The studio confirmed the delay today and said that a highly anticipated game is scheduled May 26, 2026.
The announcement is not actually a shock, as it was a poll in 2026 where most people voted to release the game. But the fact that release dates are tied together is true.

Rockstar’s announcement stated, “We are extremely sorry that this is slower than we expected. The interest and excitement surrounding the new Grand Theft Auto was truly humble for the entire team. We would like to thank you for your support and patience to end the game.”
The studio added that they are spending extra time expecting quality gamers and delivering the right time, saying, “In every game we released, our goal has always been to try to exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception.
Given how much you expect the GTA 6, this won’t hurt the game. The real winner is a video game publisher and he is now releasing a big game as he has a wide fall window for fall 2025. Naturally, some publishers have yet to decide on the release date for the game. They avoid release when GTA 6 launches, considering its reach, as the game swallows the whole thing.
The change in the release date for Borderlands 4 appears to have nothing to do with GTA 6.
Even if there is a release date, there are still many questions left. Does the game cost $100, as some analysts would like? Even if the game isn’t scheduled to be released in 2025, will you get a new trailer this year? Do you stick to the May 26th, 2026 release date?
Rockstar understands that there is no need to do any marketing and release trailers, but the game still sells 1 billion units.
