If you’re getting Quest 3 or Quest 3, you can start playing some of the best VR games out there, with everything you need in the box. However, if you’re under the belt for a few hours, you’ll notice that there are a few things that need to be improved.

Upgrade the head strap
It will soon be that the expanded play sessions include floppy head straps begging for replacement. For many people, stock fabric straps don’t do enough work to evenly distribute weight across the user’s head, leading to long-term comfort issues. Some users have reported that the Stock Quest 3/3S strap is tucked into the top of the ear.
Meta creates its own elite straps that are compatible with both Quest 3 and Quest 3, but the basic one is $70 and the one with a backmount battery costs $130, which I feel is a bit too expensive to fully recommend.
Luckily, respected third-party accessory makers will also create more affordable quest straps. There are tons out there, but Kiwi’s design and Bobovr are two of the most reliable.
Quest 3/3S Head Strap
Kiwi Design K4 Head Strap – $40
I love Kiwi Design K4 Mini Design. This is because the straps are made to avoid ears and pivots, making them easy to wear and take off with minimal readjustment. It also includes an easily sanitized rear pad that can be replaced with more grips when playing high-strength games.
Bobovr M3 Pro (with battery) – $50
The Bobovr M3 Pro not only adds a hot-swappable 5,200mAh battery (with additional batteries and charging docks sold separately), but also has a completely different strap design that puts pressure from the face to the forehead thanks to its halo style construction. This makes it easy to use the headset without face pads and expose your surroundings to the real world. Like the Kiwi K4, the M3 Pro Hinge design makes it easier to wear and take off with minimal adjustments, and includes additional rear pads for extra grip in high-strength games.
VR cover or spare face pad
If this isn’t the first quest, you’ll find that the stock facial interface for quest 3/s is actually pretty awesome. Outside the gate, the weaving of that fabric is definitely more comfortable than straightening a dense foam that is veiled straight on a greasy face, but it’s not as clean as silicone or a removable cloth cover, for example.
Notes: The facial interfaces for Quest 3 and Quest 3s are different and cannot be swapped from one to another.
The silicone cover is perfect for VR workouts as it can be wiped easily before and after a session. The advantage here is that you can replace the stock pads as soon as you’re done playing the casual game, then put them in silicone pads and replace them when ready. Quest 3 is partially replaced with the Kiwi Design Quest 3 PU Leather Facial Interface, and Kiwi Silicone Face Pad Cover.
Kiwi Design V3 Facial Interface (Quest 3) – $25
For the impressive $25 $25, you’ll get a washable PU leather cover that completely replaces the facial interface of Quest 3, as well as an upgraded light blocker for the nasal cavity that adds a bit of soaking.
Kiwi Design V4 Silicone Cover (Quest 3) – $17
This silicone cover is not a replacement, it is tied to a stock facial interface. It’s easy to wipe off. Or, if you want to clean it deeper, pop out completely. If you’re careful, you don’t even need to remove the stock facial interface to install, which means you won’t have to worry about breaking the troublesome plastic bits that will help you adjust
For Quest 3, there are almost identical versions of both that fit particularly into Quest 3 thanks to Kiwi Design.
If you don’t like the feeling of silicone or PU leather on your face, you can also go on the washable fabric route. And there is the long-standing VR accessory Make VR cover.
Quest 3 and 3 VR Covers (2 Pack) – $30
Like a silicone cover, this will slide over the existing face pads of the headset. When it’s time to clean, you can immediately pull it out and wash it with a good hand wash. Also, since you get two packs in one pack, you can always have a clean one. In addition to the grey, there is also a red option to give your headset a unique look.
If you want to exude the appearance of Quest 3 (not Quest 3), you can also get a full face pad exchange from Meta. The meta comes with matching semi-rigid head straps in elemental blue and blood orange ($50).
Makes charging easier
Quest 3 has a pin charged at the bottom of the faceplate. This means that some docks can actually charge your headset and controller simply by placing them all in the display cradle.
Meta’s official quest 3 charging dock works well, but the price range is $130.
But as you can imagine, there are almost everytime A more affordable option than Meta’s official accessories.
Esclick Charging Dock for Quest 3 and Quest 3 – $37
This doesn’t use the Quest 3’s built-in charging pin, but instead connects via the headset’s USB-C port magnetic adapter, but this dock charges the headset and controller $100 less than the price of Meta’s official accessories. To allow for charging the controller, the package includes two special reachable batteries and a replacement battery cover, with contact pins placed on the outside of the controller for easy drop-in charging. The Escleck charging dock also includes a 30W power adapter, making it 100% plug and charging compatible.
Whether you are using a dock or not, please use the USB wall adapter included in Quest 3/3. Otherwise, your headset may be charged slowly. Not all USB wall chargers are made the same. In particular, older ones should not drain almost as much power as modern adapters.
About tips: If you really have a budget (or if you want something that’s easy to use but easily portable): A great option is to get a magnetic USB-C connector cable that allows you to attach and remove a special charging cable to the headset without wearing the magnetic port (similar to the mag suffix port you see on MacBooks). Many on Amazon can hit and miss to get one in data transfer, but even make fast charging. Even if you could, you wouldn’t want to use Meta Quest Links with magnetic cables.
Carrying case
Meta’s official quest 3/3S carrying case ($70) is a good option to keep your quests properly with Prim. There’s also a $50 compact version, but it only fits with the Flappy stock strap. It can do better than that.
Sarlar Hard Carrying Case – $20
We are fans of Sarlar hard carrying cases because there is plenty of room to fit the official elite straps, but it is still very compact. Please note that if you are using a third-party hard head strap, you will need to find a larger case.
About tips: Amazon has a tonne, many hovering under the $25 mark. However, please note that if you have an aftermarket head strap, all cases do not fit.
Long USB-C cable for wired PC play
Whether you’re looking for a way to charge while playing games, or connecting your Quest 3 or Quest 3s to your computer via a Meta Quest link to use it as a PC VR headset, you’ll need a USB-C cable long enough to get the job done.

Now I know the drill “First meta, then the actual options you want to buy.” Meta’s Link Cable ($80) is a thin fiber optic cable that spans 16 feet (5m). It’s a great cable as it’s extremely thin and is quite light at 7.9 oz (224g).
But not only is it cheaper, but in one meaningful way, in fact BetterPlease see INIU 16ft Link Cable ($22). It’s the same length as the meta version, but there’s an additional port to connect to the wall outlet to make sure the headset remains charged indefinitely. While all compatible cables should be able to power your headset indefinitely, not all computers can push the right amount of power out of the USB port. An additional port on the INIU cable ensures that it does not happen.
Wi-Fi router for wireless PC VR games
We know who you are. You are a more “lower contact” person. Charge all your devices exclusively wirelessly, simply talk to friends through discrepancies, waving and preferring a polite bow from across the room. Your “public toilet hover” game is also suitable for locking. Well, you’re happy to know that you can play PC VR gaming cable free thanks to Airlink.
For many PC VR games, if you want to make the most of your headset linking to a VR-enabled PC, you’ll need a Wi-Fi 6 router. If you haven’t upgraded your router since 2014, you’re almost certainly planning to upgrade to this new protocol. Not only is the latest router needed for a great wireless VR experience, we also appreciate the rest of the devices on our home network.
Assuming you’re trying to upgrade your old router and make sure you’re in a ship shape to play VR wirelessly, the ASUS RT-Axe7800 will opt for a properly affordable high-performance router that will prevent you in the future thanks to the Wi-Fi 6E. $280 costs a cute penny. If you have a budget, TP-Link’s AXE5400 also offers Tri-Band WiFi 6E coverage for just $130, albeit with a slightly lower 5 GHz data speed.
Also, for the best wireless VR experience in Quest 3/3, you need to make sure your host PC is pinned to the router and you are using the headset in the same room as the router. You may be able to escape by playing one room, but the farther you run from the router, the more likely you are to have a rug and disconnect.
