Tech experts say Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has serious performance issues on every console as fans wait for much-needed patches.
Oblivion Remastered enjoys a hugely successful launch with over 4 million players and “very positive” user review ratings on Steam. However, if there is one issue that continues to occur, it is a performance issue.
Digital Foundry has performed extensive analysis of Oblivion, which has been remastered across all console platforms, and found that the game has serious issues across the board. Defender Thomas Morgan mentions the overhaul of Virtuos’ Unreal Engine 5.
Whether it’s a PS5, PS5 Pro, or Xbox Series machine, there’s no problem fighting traversal hitches while everything roams the open world. Secondly, there is a major sub-60FPS frame rate. I also found that performance deteriorates slowly with more play time – probably up to a memory leak. And finally, the software freeze is cake icing, with all PlayStation and Xbox platforms crashing into the system menu, loading saves too many times.
How does this appear in the game? According to the defender, a “recharged” playthrough with more continuous playtime behind it is worse than fresh boots. Cycle-Through Save will also introduce bugs to charged play-Throughs, Morgan revealed. And this is particularly curious. This also leads to the camera position being too high while riding. You can fix this by resetting the game.
The discovery of performance as a result of potential memory leaks is of particular concern. Crashing when loading saves multiple times is also an important issue.
Of course, Bethesda is about addressing these issues faster than slowing down, especially as players are likely to spend more time in vast fantasy role-playing games and encounter these performance issues.
“This is a disastrous position for a remaster to come in, and developer masters need to address game stability – crashes – as a priority,” Morgan continued.
Digital Foundry asks some difficult questions in the analysis, suggesting that the remastered Oblivion was “exciting to the market.” Also, there appears to be a discrepancy between versions, and hotfixes for Xbox Series X have not been available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.
That’s a terrible rating of forgetting on the console, but what about PCs? DF has already issued an analysis of the PC version and calls its performance “Dire.” It is worth checking out the DF analysis in full for more details.
