Nintendo recently began filming pre-orders for Switch 2 games on its online store, coinciding with the opening of the Switch 2 Console Pre-Pre-Orders. From my habit, I quickly scrolled to the “Game File Size” section of each page to see how much storage needed for each game. Some Switch 2 game file sizes are larger than expected, and are closer to the counterpart of a Windows PC than the original Switch port.
This makes sense given that Nintendo’s upcoming consoles are powerful enough to run games at faster frame rates at 1080p or above. Still, it takes just a handful of games to fully fill the Switch 2’s built-in 256GB storage. The file sizes for the future Switch 2 ports are as follows:
All of these games clock at just 300 GB, above 300 GB. You now need a MicroSD Express card.
It might be weird to buy add-on storage for consoles you don’t already own, but I think it’s wise to grab the largest microSD express card you can afford to use on Switch 2. Much faster (and more expensive) than MicroSD cards used in other devices like switches and steam decks. Note: Older microSD cards are not compatible with Switch 2 for anything you buy by looking at screenshots and video clips captured on the original Switch.
