As a console, the Switch 2 is definitely one of Nintendo’s more iterative hardware follow-ups. Both technicians have the same obvious refined design with a removable controller, and both consoles have a significant overlap in the game catalog. You’d think this might encourage Nintendo to try and distinguish between their products as much as possible in marketing, but no. Switch 2, like Switch 2, comes in a red box.
It’s certainly a small box. You might want to point out the huge “2” above the box. At least that’s what people are currently discussing on X Post, sharing photos of influencer Woodhawker pitting both packages side by side.
The post has been so viral that it caught the eye of current and former retail workers. They have firsthand experiences with people who buy video games every day.
“If you’ve worked in food or retail stores, you’d know the sad truth,” writes Celia Bee, marketing director at Yacht Club Games.
“Yor is obsessed with this, but as both a game designer and a retail worker who saw cognitive function in the average person’s brain, he’s very right,” says X-user ItsNeon2401.
The post caused ambusiness on social media that the original poster, Wood, uploaded a video dealing with the backlash. “It’s not the general public,” Wood says. “‘It’s a bit confusing’ is what I said. “It’s a bit confusing.” It’s not like mass hysteria, it’s not like rioting on the streets. ”
The whole situation is a bit reminiscent of what happened on the Wii U, a console filled with indifference despite its controversial strengths. While many different factors contributed to the Wii U’s flop, part of the Nintendo’s own issue approval was the name of the console and the way it was sold. For the average people, it was difficult to identify why the Wii U is a new console and is worth buying compared to the Wii.
“We have relaxed our (marketing) efforts so today’s consumers still can’t understand what’s so good and unique about the Wii U,” former Nintendo president Satori Iwata said in 2013.
Certainly, it seems unlikely that the Switch 2 will land near the bad sales numbers of Wii U. Nintendo. Nintendo expects to sell two units of 15 million switches in its first year. Switch 2 probably does fine. Do retail workers have to sell it? That package is about to cause some headaches when it was released on June 5th.
