Publisher Dreamhaven revealed its first title from internal developer Moonshot Games, founded and led by former Blizzard Entertainment employees, especially Michael Morhaime.
Wildgate is a PVP multiplayer crew-based shooter game. Moonshot Gamers studio head Jason Chayes and Moonshot Games game director Dustin Browder featured the title in the Dreamhaven Showcase announced by the Game Awards.
The two introduced the game’s settings as “a dangerous place on the edge of the galaxy outside the law,” and compared it to the “Scale Bermuda Triangle of the Universe.” As you know, it’s not the safest part of the galaxy, but hey, there’s treasures and looting there, so it’s worth diving in!
Spanning five ships, 20 players can secure artifacts and face each other to escape victory. Or you can win the match by eliminating everyone else in the match.
Wildgate aims to borrow from popular multiplayer games
If you’ve heard this, stop me. Blizzard developers borrow gameplay elements from popular titles and make them their own. As far as I can remember, that’s what they did. World of Warcraft is not innovative. Instead, use the best parts of the MMO genre to polish and make it more accessible.
Technically, this is not a Blizzard game, but remember that Dreamhaven was founded by veterans of Blizzard Entertainment. It’s not surprising to see Moonshot’s first game feel like a hybrid between a sea of thieves and an escape from Tarkov.
Each crew is home to a variety of prospectors, each with their own unique abilities and skills. One hook present here is the fact that each match has a procedurally generated map, ensuring that the two matches don’t play in the same way.
WildGate will be released in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. All consoles will be playing tests from April 10th to 14th. You can sign up on their website.
