Steam Accounted for More Than Half of Monster Hunter Wilds’ Total Dollar Sales in the U.S.

Monster Hunter Wilds' Popularity Is Thanks to Story Emphasis, Immersion, and Cross-Play, Series Producer Says

Monster Hunter Wilds is a huge hit all over the world and is on sale in just three days. In the US, Capcom’s action games have so far been the bestselling game of 2025, with PC being particularly dominant.

According to Circana, Monster Hunter Wild is not only a bestselling game in February, but also more than doubled the monthly dollar sales of Total Monster Hunter: Rise, which achieved its March 2021 debut.

As you can imagine, Monster Hunter Wilds was the bestselling game of February via PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. But here are some interesting statistics. Steam accounts for more than half of MonsterHunterWilds’ total sales. It has led to the “mixed” user review rating for Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam despite some well-known performance issues on PC.

Perhaps the success of Monster Hunter Wilds’ PCs should not be a surprise given that PCs are becoming increasingly important for Multiplatform releases. Talking to Passthecontroller in a recent interview, Strauss Zelnick, boss of Rockstar parent company Take-Two, said that the PC version of the multi-platform game can generate 40% of overall sales, or even more for a given game.

That statistics came as part of the current discussion of console generation. In the US, video game hardware spending in February fell to $256 million compared to a year ago. This is the minimum February total of video game hardware spending since $184 million hit in February 2020.

Zelnick noted that the PC platform is becoming important while publishers are waiting for the next move for Sony and Microsoft, and while Nintendo’s Switch 2 waits on the wings.

“We’ve seen PCs become a much more important part of what was being the console business, and you wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue,” he said. “Of course there’s a new generation of consoles.”

Monster Hunter Wiles is evidence of this trend. But that wasn’t the only thing that would work out in February. In fact, according to Circana data, the top four bestselling games for February 2025 were the new releases in which Kingdom Come, Civilization VII of Sidmier and PGA Tour 2K25 joined Monster Hunter Wild. Other new releases that appeared in the top 10 bestsellers of the month included Obsidian’s Avod. This started Day One on the Game Pass.

Circana said the release month dollar sales general kingdom is coming: Rescue II, reaching February 2025, is more than five times higher than the arrival of the original kingdom achieved during its February 2018 debut. Kingdom Come: Deliverance Developer Embracer Group, the parent company of Warhorse Studios, has already welcomed the success of selling the sequel.
