Even if you enjoy Nier: Automata and its predecessor Nier: Replicant, you may be forgiven for not knowing that the game actually got a sequel. Unfortunately, its sequel, the mobile game Nier: Re(in) Carnation, has been out of use for almost a year since it went offline in April 2024.
But fortunately, the Square Enix website drops some pretty wild universe hints that this could be about to change.
As journalist Willa Low pointed out in Blueski, the official Nier website currently publishing Nier’s special mobel to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the series bullies anything related to carnation via tips for nier:re(in)carnation in text in text and webpage source code. As part of today’s novel update, chapter 4, just published, ends with a strange text read as follows:
(Warning): Recovery Protocol Initialization… (Error): Redirect to backup node: (Information): Analysis comment added to source code.
(Fatal): The process has been forced to halt.
What does that mean? who knows? But wait, there’s more. If you press “View Source” on that page, there is even more strange bullying in the code comment, as suggested above. They read in order:
Security Notification: An unauthorized transmission was detected. Signal destruction has been recorded. Countermeasure protocol active. Redirect to backup node: https://www.jp.square-enix.com/nierreincarnation/
TODO: Optimizes rendering efficiency. Contradictions in “her” emotions can interfere with the clarity of the signal. Make sure the transport remains distortion-free.
FIXME: Visibility settings for crashed observer systems. He watches… adjusts access permissions before deployment. his name is…………
Hack: Log mismatch detected. Records show previous attempts to change due to excessive interference from the cage. Cross-check against the original send before proceeding.
Well, there are a lot here, but some of them are inexplicable, and some of them make sense. For example, “cages” are the main locations where most of the neil:re(in) carnation takes place. And “She” is a key character in the re(in) carnation (yes, that’s her name). Between that and the hyperlinks, it’s pretty obvious that this refers all, but it’s not anyone’s guess as to what exactly it will be.
The two final chapters of the novel are scheduled to be released on May 2nd, a week from today. Also, what’s going on here can pull the curtains back. Fans speculate that it could lead to some sort of port or re-release of Nier:re(in)Carnation, which has never been played anywhere since it went offline last year. They also point out that the special novel chapters currently available only in Japanese (but fans have translated) have a rather important connection to all three other Nier games.
If you’re new to Re(in)Carnation, I highly recommend paying attention to this, especially if the final result is another opportunity to play it. Re(in)Carnation is a good game that many people have slept with because it is a mobile Gacha game in itself, but critically, it is also a direct sequel to Nier: Automata, effectively Nier 3 for those waiting for it. who knows? Perhaps a new (in) carnation release will contain new content that will tie together with a continuous stream of loose knee-related threads.
