Silent Hill 4 Joins GOG Preservation Program With Cut Content Previously Unavailable on PC

The GOG conservation program has grown with a solid list of enlists, including classic titles such as Silent Hill 4: The Room, Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption, Fallout 2, and Deus Ex.

PC Digital StoreFront yesterday detailed how it plans to expand its retro gaming-focused service, offering fans a lineup of games that they promised to support in the near future. It’s a list of 26 titles Gog says “Remaining playable in the best version” that players can safely see access for years to come.

Silent Hill 4: Room is one of the titles that benefit from the GOG Preservation Program. In addition to ensuring the future, Gog says the status of entries on the service means “lossing content that was previously unavailable on the PC.” This includes the reintroduction of haunts that cover the iconic Silent Hill atmosphere with creepy effects such as flickering lamps and owned phones. The latest controller support has also been added.

The Fear Platinum, which was promised last month, arrives as a particularly great addition, as it was with the original developer Monolith Productions. Warner Bros. shuttered last month. With more studio closures occurring and the industry leaning towards a digital future, it’s a perfect example of what GOG aims to achieve with its preservation programme.

The GOG Storage Program is a relatively new initiative from the storefront owned by CD Projekt Red, serving as the company’s commitment to making game choices available to PC players with the latest insights. Over 100 games are supported through the program, and judging from today’s announcement, the list continues to grow.

“The GOG Preservation Program is our commitment to maintaining the history of the game,” Gog said at the time of its announcement late last year. “Through the program, players can trust that their games are always up to date and can run on current and future PC setups.

“Whether it’s a manual, a DLC or missing features, we provide the most complete version that could have been backed by Gog technical support and offline installers, so we can protect these classics for years to come.”
