Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive on June 5th. The cost is $449.99; Mario Kart World (This is only produced until fall), which costs $499.99, saving you $30 against buying the game individually.
But do I need to buy a Switch 2?
When I first published this article in early 2024, many people wondered whether buying a Switch is still a wise choice or should I wait for Switch 2 instead. That was before we knew it the same as we now. Nintendo’s direct April 2nd, and passthecontroller’s own Switch 2 hands-on impressions, shed light on almost everything we’re interested in. That is, a game that can be played on the strength of Switch 2, the way it is different from the original Switch, the amount of cost, and the launch date (and later).
Given the high cost of the Switch 2, it clearly isn’t for everyone. Prices between $199.99 and $349.99, the original switch model may be suitable for some people, whether it’s a switch OLED, a regular switch, or a switch light. With so many options and so much money, it’s still as confusing as ever to decide what the right move is. Perhaps we can help you.

Have you played the Switch’s amazing game library?
If you’re brand new to the Nintendo Switch world, there are plenty of good games to keep up. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildsequel The tears of the kingdom, Metroid Dred, Super Mario Odyssey, The fiery emblem: three houses, Pikmin 4 – You can continue, but let me do it for you in the best Switch games summary. You don’t need Switch 2 to play the best the Switch has to offer.
You can rest assured to know that all original Switch games, both digital and physical, are compatible with new consoles, and some of them boast increased performance thanks to increased hardware speeds. (Nintendo sells Switch 2 edition upgrades of several original Switch games, including numerous upgrades, but you won’t I have it To pay for those upgrades, simply play the games you own. ) If you choose to buy a new console, all the games will come with you.
Nintendo has announced the release dates for the first two specialist games for the Switch, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananzaother Nintendo releases, etc. Metroid Prime 4: Beyondand it also came to the original switch. Unless you are Really I love Mario Kart. The amount of Switch2 monopoly at this point does not tilt the scale completely in favor of the new console.
Still (this makes me dizzy, I know), I don’t suggest that most people buy a Switch at that full price just to catch up now. If you find it in a deal, that’s a different story. However, if you don’t want to wait for a deal that may never come (or it may not be as good as you would like), you should consider pre-ordering a new console or waiting until a more exclusive game buys.

Does VRR, ALLM, 120 Hz mean anything to you?
If so, you will need to wait for Switch 2. Otherwise, you may be completely satisfied with the original switch.
The Switch 2 boasts surprisingly modern specifications (no Attack, Nintendo) with a screen that allows you to run games at up to 120 frames per second at 1080p resolution. The Nvidia G-Sync display utilizes a technology called Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to adapt the screen refresh rate to GPU performance so that you don’t notice any screen tears. For Auto Low-Latency Mode (ALLM), the Switch 2 dock can automatically trigger the TV’s low-latency game mode to ensure the best possible visuals and play the game at up to 4K.
The original switch…it can’t do anything. The 720p screen tops at 60 frames per second, with many games revealing how long the original hardware is.
On the other hand, are you buying it for people who don’t care about technical specifications?
Does the inactive performance of the Switch era undermine the fun you can enjoy in the game? The answer depends on who you ask. I? Not so, it came from a man who was willing to explore Hyrule (and above and below) The tears of the kingdom) And I played dozens of other games with a grin from ear to ear. But again, from a financial standpoint, buying a Switch OLED for $349.99 is only $100 less than the Switch 2, but it doesn’t make sense. Unless Nintendo lowers the price of the original Switch console (personally, I don’t expect Nintendo to cut the price by half, but isn’t that a good thing?).
That said, the internal screen of the Switch OLED is superior in one major way compared to Switch 2. As you may have gathered from that name, Switch OLED has an OLED screen to make your game look amazing. It runs at a lower resolution and refresh rate than the Switch 2, but the LCD screen on the new console is probably blue-white when compared to displaying rich, accurate colors and perfect black.
Do you like GameCube?
Ah, Nintendo took you there. The company has introduced GameCube games to its Nintendo Switch Online + expansion pack membership, but only if you have Switch 2. You can only play on the new console. The Legend of Zelda: Windowwaker, Soulcalibur 2, f-zero gxAnd I’ll come more in the future.
