You will not play Koei Tecmo’s Rise of the Ronin PC port in one seat. Apparently, the game itself has a bit of a problem, as an unknown bug has developed a preference for saved files.
It appears that the player opens the game after the play session and the saved data has been deleted, but there is no explanation. Koei Tecmo is aware of this issue and offers suggestions to troubleshoot things, but still found no permanent solution.
Those solutions include using the Steam cloud or loading backup files. Both are promising routes, but they are clearly far from ideal.
Despite positive reviews of the game, Rise of the Ronin has been plagued by PC technical issues since its launch. With Monster Hunter Wilds released with a candidly embarrassing PC launch, it’s far from the only game that addresses this kind of issue.
No solution to Ronin’s PC rise has been discovered yet, but the bug hunting issue appears to have gained a lead. The troubleshooting page on the Koei Tecmo website specially calls file sharing services such as Dropbox.
If you have services like those enabled on your computer, Koei Tecmo recommends disabling them. It quotes them as “very likely” that somehow contradicts the rise of Ronin.
Save the Rise of the Ronin Data Delete will inspire players’ anger
When all that fierce battle progress is thrown into the trash, you will inevitably get some appalling reactions from the players. PC gamers claimed they had lost at least 10 hours of progress when they spotted one user flagging the issue as a warning to others.
Until 1-2 years after it’s released with the meat patch, we won’t be touched again on the Koei Tecmo release
The Steam Review score for Rise of the Ronin is also struggling quite a bit – and other technical issues will continue to get in the way of the fun. Its recent scores are clearly “mixed” and negative reviews have roughly the same message.
At the very least, the game developers seem to be shy about this issue, and the fix should come soon. However, without a clear timeline or a game they can play, PC fans are naturally frustrated.
“We’re continuing to investigate this issue with others,” Koei Tecmo said on the Steam Post. “We’ll report it immediately when there’s development.”
