Report: Apple CEO “cares about nothing else” Than Building Breakout AR Glasses Before Meta

It is rumored that Apple is working on two versions of Vision Pro. Bloomberg’s Mark Garman claims that the Cupercino tech giant is aiming to beat Meta to punch with AR glasses.

Citing those with knowledge of this issue, the report maintains that Apple CEO Tim Glasses has developed as a top priority.

“Tim doesn’t care anything else,” the source said. Bloomberg. “That’s all he really spends his time in terms of product development.”

However, creating the kind of day-to-day AR glasses that Apple is aiming for is still a multi-year challenge. Packed into high-resolution displays, the powerful chip and high density (but very small) batteries for all-day power, represent many technical challenges. And creating such a device in the consumer price range is undoubtedly the biggest of them all.

Apple is registered on the record, but Meta is quite transparent on the XR roadmap. In the second half of 2024, Meta unveiled Orion AR glasses. This hopes to lead to the commercialization of such devices before 2030, with prices being “at least in the phone space, the territory of the laptop.” For now, Orion is spending meta somewhere close to $10,000 per unit, primarily for custom carbide waveguide optics.

Also, while Orion itself isn’t being put into production anytime soon, Meta is progressing smoothly in the XR space, producing not only multi-generation quest standalone headsets, but also Ray-Ban Meta Meta, which will lay the foundation for AR glasses in the near future.

Smart glasses built in collaboration with Essilorluxottica are also extremely successful. So, Meta is reportedly preparing next-generation devices, including a single mirror head-up display. Certainly, they Not augmented reality glassesrather, still Smart Glasses. Here you can learn more about the differences between the two.

For now, Gurman is working on a new version of Apple Watch and AirPods, embedded with AI-enabled cameras, but the fruit company is internally debating whether to counter the meta with its own smart glasses.

According to Gurman, Apple is developing devices like this that are designed to use Siri and Apple’s visual intelligence, but the company is not sure if they will actually allow glasses. capture Media is based on the company’s stance regarding user privacy.

This follows broader leadership reforms at Apple. Bloomberg Last month, Apple’s Vision Products Group (VPG) was redistributed across the company.

The VPG, which was tasked with developing Vision Pro, was originally created in 2023. This was a particularly deviant from the “functional” management structure introduced by Steve Jobs in the early 90s. Essentially, this will bring Vision Pro product development back along with other hardware in the company, including iPhones, iPads and more.
