The stable flood of new cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket continues APACE, with yet another new expansion next week. This is also a big deal. It is called the Guardian of the Heaven and is based on the theme of Pokemon’s sun and moon.
Celestial Guardians was officially released on April 30th and features two booster packs themed on two different types of booster packs, with the legendary Solgaleo and Lunara. It mainly features Alolan Pokemon, which includes three starter Rowlett, Liten and Popprio, as well as regional variations such as Alolan Raichu and Marowak. And of course, it comes with a new trainer card themed around popular characters from the Alola region, as well as a new way to display a collection of new binder covers and display boards.
Strangely enough, the set appears to include two versions of the Starter Trio, a daytime and nighttime version. Each has different statistics and abilities. It’s unclear how popular this split is across the set, but if you have multiple passes to make the same card in the field, you can create some interesting decks.
Celestial Guardians is the sixth expansion to date, and the third major expansion, the genetic vertices and space-time smackdown of the major expansions, and the smaller islands of expansion myths, the light of victory, and the latest sparkling revelation. When this work was written, these expansions have not yet been abolished, but it is probably only a matter of time before we say goodbye to our genetic apex.
So far, Pokemon TCG Pocket has maintained its pace with about one new expansion a month, along with regular in-game solos and competitive events. TCG Pocket also implemented trading earlier this year, in addition to collecting and fighting, but this feature was widely panned due to high-cost barriers and lack of useful trading capabilities, forcing developers to make sure the changes were on the way. Despite this, the game has been successful and is estimated to have made $5 billion in less than three months.
