After six months of rumors and leaks, we finally saw the first time Pokemon Champion, a brand new multiplayer battle-centric Pokemon game developed in a collaboration between Game Freak and Pokemon Works.
Pokémon Champions is a game focused on Pokemon battles and features the series “Core Style Battles” that allows players to fight each other online. The trailer shows that both the evolution of the mega and terrastarization are definitely included. This suggests that you canvas all different types and eras of Pokemon battles.
Additionally, Pokemon Champions are connected to Pokemon Home, where players transfer and fight Pokemon from all other games, and ultimately have connections to the fans with hundreds of Pokemon sitting in boxes of past generations.
Pokemon Champion is “currently under development” on both the Nintendo Switch and mobile, but there was no release date. In addition to other languages previously available in Pokemon games, it will be available for play in Latin American Spanish at launch.
Pokemon Champions appear to be the same as Pokemon Synapse. Pokemon Synapse is the game that was first leaked last year as part of a big “Freak Creek” where freak information from internal games drops online, including unreleased games, notes, Pokemon designs and more. The most solid details we had at the time were that they were co-developed by Game Freak and ILCA, but everything else seemed a bit speculative with the work in progress. Those who looked into the leak suggested that it was some kind of multiplayer game and that some compared it to Splatoon, but that comparison seems to be off a bit.
You can catch up here with everything else we saw with today’s Pokemon present.
