Artificial Intelligence (AI) is causing controversy in the video game world because its reckless use and the potential for employees to lose their livelihoods, but there is something good about technology.

This time, thanks to AI, gamers can use their browsers for free to play the classic first-person shooter game!

Microsoft creates a replica generated in FPS AI in the browser

Microsoft has launched the Copilot page. This allows gamers to play the original Quake 2 for free in their browser. According to Microsoft, this is an “experimental technical demo” so don’t expect a bug-free experience.

For those who don’t know the history of the game, Quake 2 was released on PC in 1997 and developed by IS software. Over the next few years, the game was released on all platforms under the sun, the latest being the “Enhanced” version developed by Nightdive Studios, which was released in August 2023 for consoles and PCs.

It’s not just a re-release, it feels like a remake.

The Quake franchise is widely considered to be one of the pillars of the genre and may not be as big as it used to be, but there is still a massive follower that has reached its peak with the annual Quakecon event. This year, it will be held at Gaylord Theatre in Grapevine, Texas, and will be held from August 7th to 10th.

The free games we reported today are not the first or last game available in the browser, but it’s still cool to see what AI can do when used properly.

Of course, this has a very harsh meaning. This is a scary idea, as it means you can use AI to create games from scratch. We may be heading towards such a future, but I still think machines can never replace the creativity of the human mind.

For now, enjoy free games that can also be played on your company PC (and while you’re working).
