Pimax unveiled the Dream Air last December and aims to take on the emerging segment of compact, high-end PC VR headsets such as the Bigscreen Beyond and Shiftall Maganex Superlight 8K. And before the company released Dream Air, Pimax revealed that it was producing a cheaper version: Dream Air SE.
The company, which was previously scheduled to be released in May, announced that Dream Air had been delayed from August to September 2025 during the Pimax Connect event.
“Sony’s micro-all panels are the top tier used by Apple and Google,” says Martin Lammi, marketing director for Pimax Europe. “They have excellent quality consistency on all panels and have better visual effects, because they have a higher brightness and a wide angle or “Chiefley angle” that raises pixels from 15 to 20 degrees. ”
Other updates to Dream Air include support for third-party head straps, including the more balanced split cable design revealed in March, optional flip-up style halo head straps, and HTC’s Deluxe Audio straps.
In the meantime, Pimax has revealed its Dream Air SE. This includes many of the same features of Dream Air, including micro-all panels, integrated audio, self-adjusting straps, pancake lenses, hand tracking, and Tobii Eye tracking. The outstanding difference, however, is the Dream Air SE’s 2,560 x 2,560 resolution microall and low price.
The Dream Air SE starts at $899 for the Lighthouse version and appeals to those with existing SteamVR base stations and controllers. The slam version, priced at $1,199, includes controllers and inside out tracking. Both can be pre-ordered on the Pimax website.
Like other Pimax headsets, users pay the headset’s upfront cost associated with a 14-day probationary period. After that, if the user wants to keep the headset, they will pay a Pimax Prime software membership for ongoing access. Here’s how this collapses:
- Dream Air SE – Slam version:$699 from +$500 Prime = $1,199 total
- Dream Air SE – Lighthouse Version (no controller or basestation):$599 untfront +$300 prime =$899 total
For comparison, the Dream Air Lighthouse version starts at $1,899 ($1,199 advance + $700 Prime), while the Dream Air Slam version costs $2,199 ($1,399 advance + 800 Prime).
