On June 26, 2025, Atlus revealed that free spinoff Persona5: The Phantom X is coming to PC and mobile devices.
The Persona series developers today announced the release date for their latest Persona 5 spinoff in a one-hour breakdown video. It is being developed as part of a collaboration between Atlus, Sega and Perfect World, and is reintroducing players to Phantom Thieves along with new faces.
The Japanese and English versions of Persona5: The Phantom X will be released simultaneously next month, but this scaled story from the Persona 5 universe is not entirely new. It was announced in 2023 and originally released in China in 2024. Since then, developers of live service titles have been working on solving kinks.
“Wrapped in unique turn-based RPG gameplay and settings Persona 5The official description of Atlas states, “Players live a dual life as students and phantom thiefs with a band of students and phantom thiefs. During the day, players build life experiences as students and engage in a variety of activities, such as friends and part-time work.
If you’re a Persona 5 fan, you’ll be happy to know that Phantom X still features the stylish turn-based gameplay of that game. Players look forward to exploring work and extracurricular activities while enjoying new mini-games specific to this particular entry. Atlus hopes you know this is a proven persona experience, as it confirms its involvement in writing and directing some of the original side stories the game offers.
Persona5: Phantom X is seen through the eyes of a whole new collection of protagonists and Phantom Thieves, but Joker and other original Phantom Thieves members also appear through special contracts. Players also have the freedom to use new modes, including PVE modes called Velvet Trials, new memorabilia, and new guild features.
“It took me so long to announce a Western release,” said Sega’s Jun Matsunaga, “and I’m very sorry to keep Western fans in the dark for so long. The setting to the tone of the story coincided with the standard Western fans of Persona Games’.”
Persona 5 was launched all along in 2016 and has received many spinoffs since. These include crossovers with other titles such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as well as standalone experiences such as Persona 5 Striker, Persona 5 Tactica, and Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight. I’ve hardly heard of what a potential Persona 6 entails, but you can read everything I know here.
