Palworld Modders is taking its own hand with the mechanism that forced developer PocketPair to patch out due to patent lawsuits between Nintendo and Pokémon Company.
Last week, Pocket Pair admitted that the recent patch was forced into the game as a result of an ongoing lawsuit between Nintendo and the Pokémon Company.
Palworld started straight to the game pass with $30 at the price of $30 on Xbox and PC in early 2024, breaking the player number record at the same time as sales in the process. PocketPair boss Takuro Mizobe has a huge launch of Palworld, so developers are Could not handle the large profits the game generated. Still, Pocket Pair acted quickly to capitalize on the success of Palworld’s breakout, Signing a contract with Sony It will form a new business called Palworld Entertainment, which imposs an expansion of IP. Later I started the game on the PS5.
After the massive launch of Palworld, comparisons were made between Palworld peers and Pokémon, with Pocket Pairs denounced the “ripping off” Pokemon design. However, rather than filing a copyright infringement lawsuit, Nintendo and the Pokemon Company went down the patent route. Companies want 5 million yen each (approximately $32,846) and their respective late payment damages, as well as an injunction against Palworld, which blocks its release.
November, PocketPair has confirmed three Japanese-based patentsand is being sued, revolving around catching Pokemon in virtual fields. Palworld included mechanics that included throwing ball-like objects (called PAL spheres) at monsters on the field, similar to the mechanics found in the 2022 Nintendo Switch Exclusive. The Legend of Pokemon: Arceus.
Six months later, PocketPair issued an update that acknowledged that recent changes to the game were indeed the result of a legal threat. PocketPair has confirmed that Patch V0.3.11, released in November 2024, is the result of a continuing lawsuit that players suspect. This patch removed the ability to throw PAL balls to summon allies, and instead changed to a static summon next to the player. Several other game mechanics have also been changed in this patch.
PocketPair said if these changes were not made to Palworld, “the alternative would lead to even greater deterioration in the gameplay experience for players.”
Pockeptpair revealed that last week’s Patch v0.5.5 makes further changes to Palworld, using gliders rather than mates to perform gliding. While teammates of players continue to provide passive buffs to glide, players must have gliders in their inventory to glide.
PocketPair calls these changes “compromise.” The studio is forced without fear of being granted an injunction that could block the development and sale of Palworld.
Just a week later, Modders added a gliding to Palworld. Reversing changes from last week’s patch, as discovered by Dexerto, the Glider Restoration mod from Primarinabee, available in Nexus Mods.
“Palworld patch 0.5.5? What? That didn’t happen!” Read the mod description.
“For those who like to fly with your peers, this mod uses handheld hands to reverse the “removal” of gliding peers,” he continues. “The stock still needs a glider, which isn’t completely complete, but basically, it’s going to reverse patch 0.5.5 without forgetting to update the game in the future.”
Primarinabee’s Glider Restoration Mod was available on May 10th and has already been downloaded hundreds of times.
There are currently mods available regarding repairs to throw release companions parallel These lines don’t work exactly as Palworld used before last year’s patch (it doesn’t include ball throwing animations, summoning the Pal you’re currently watching).
The question is how much of a glider repair period will be available given the ongoing lawsuit.
At the Game Developer Conference (GDC) in March Passthecontroller sat for a lengthy conversation with John “Bucky” Buckley, Communications Director and Publishing Manager at Palworld Developer PocketPair.
He spoke following his speech at the conference, “Community Management Summit: Palworld Roller Coaster: Survival of the Drop.” In that lecture, Buckley frankly detailed the accusation of using many Palworld struggles, particularly the accusation of using the generator AI (the pocket pair wobbled quite soundly), and stealing Pokemon models (they claimed that the person who originally made it retracted). he I’ve commented Regarding Nintendo’s patent infringement lawsuit, he said he “is coming as a shock” to the studio and “no one has taken into consideration.”
