Pocket pair, studio behind Palworld, A recent interview revealed that the game development industry does not seem to have any money at this point. Talking Gamesradar at GDC 2025, John Buckley, Director of PocketPair Communications and Publishing Manager, spoke about getting the pitch from other development teams after the studio release. PocketPair had announced that it would release the game in January. Buckley was preparing his publishing department and talked about how the company started listening to the studio pitch.
“We met these people very early last year and started to hear ideas,” Buckley explained. “And we were very honest. We said, we don’t have anything in the publisher, but we listen, and we talked a lot about it.
“We want to help create cool indie products. We want to help create cool, premium indie products, a kind of AAS.”
So far, no details have been revealed about the first title of Surgent Studios, except for the fact that it will become a horror game. Studio founder Abubakar Salim (also voiced by Baek The origin of the assassin’s beliefs), spoke about the opportunity for his studio to pass through the pocket pair.
“We noticed patterns in the entertainment industry. Pocket Pairs gave us the opportunity to make horror games about it,” Salim said. “Surgery and Pocket Pair are both familiar with risk taking. This game will be short and weird and I think players will be interested in what we have to say.”
Buckley was talking about the studio’s publishing department being created to help more indie studios get their games back in January. On social media, Buckley commented on how quickly the game pitch began to appear after the publication division was announced. He also talked about how he wants to give economic independence to smaller studios to make their games.
“We’ll give you money. You’ll make a game,” Buckley posted. “If you need marketing or other help, we can help, but otherwise we will do anything.
PocketPair was able to kickstart the publishing department to help small developers thanks to the huge success seen in the game Palworld. According to a February Back report, Pal World It has been played by over 32 million players so far. For context, the game was developed on a budget of $6.7 million.
