30th anniversary Mobile Suit Gundam WingBlizzard has transformed Overwatch heroes into mechas. Mercy, Grim Reaper, Soldier: 76, and Ramatra all have skins based on anime from April 29th to 90s.
The lineup will be as follows: Mercy as Wing Zero, Death of Death Slowly, Soldier: 76 Tailgee, Ramatra as Epion.
From such a large roster (43!) on Overwatch Heroes, some people didn’t make the cut.
“As an example, we originally tried Anna for the Tallgies because their weapons are similar, but it wasn’t really working,” Dennett said.
“We also explored the Mauga as a heavy arm because the weapons were a very close match,” Rogers said. “In the end, it didn’t look right at all, so it ended up moving in a different direction from the options of heroes and mobile suits.”
The team purchased the Gunpla kit to build Mech and compare it to the in-game version. Rogers said he notices “If you look closely at someone’s finger hinge, you’ll notice that type of thing.” When the collaboration comes to live, the main menu even features art by one of the artists behind Gunpla Box Art.
Blizzard states that crossover skins cannot be played as characters or mechas from other media, but can instead be played as if Overwatch heroes were cosplaying. Rogers said the team demanded they see many of the heroes of the design when they showed off an early repetition of leather Bandai. So, you can still see Mercy’s shining wings as you fly around the white and blue armor of Wing Zero.
“Gundam has had a big impact on culture and games, but it has had a big impact on many artists,” Rogers said. “It was a passionate project for us, and for some of our team members, it was a bucket list moment.”
Overwatch Mobile Suit Gundam Wing The collaboration will begin on April 29th.
