Despite the franchise’s future plans, Kojima Hideo has not directed the sequel.
It has been known since last year that Kojima’s Death Stranding has been treated as a film, but it has not yet been starred. Given that the game already features Hollywood actors as the main characters, would it have made no sense to cast actors in the film?
It’s unclear what’s going on behind the scenes, but the game’s main character, Norman Reeds (The Walking Dead), is keen to play the same character on the big screen.
Norman Reudus is keen to star in a Stretch of Death movie when asked
Norman Reeds, who plays the game’s main character, Sam Porter, spoke to Ignian Reedus and openly confirmed that he would portait the film version of the character if asked.
“If that was an option, certainly” is what Reedus said when asked if he was considering playing himself in a future version of the game. “I don’t know what’s going on with it. It’s so pre-prepared for now, but of course,” the actor added.
The Reeds were also asked about the confusion with the first game and whether he felt like he was going into the second game. Reedus’ reply seems to be a very on-point for anyone who has experienced Kojima’s eccentric method. “As long as you work with him and understand where his head is, I don’t think anyone can understand where his head is. He’s just that guy, he’s there, he has great ideas, but the storyline was, I knew what was going on.
If Reedus is not cast as the lead in the film, this may be one of the strangest moves in film history. He is already a Hollywood actor and the character is a 1:1 version of himself! Of course, you don’t know what’s going on in Kojima’s head, so don’t be surprised if he does something odd about the cast’s choices.
The Death Stranding film is directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, Quiet Place: Day 1) and produced by A24 and Kojima Productions. The actor has not been cast and the film’s release date is not yet planned, but it is produced in advance.
The soon to be released sequel has recently been confirmed to feature two graphical modes for players to choose from. As for the future of the franchise, don’t expect Kojima to lead the sequel.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on June 26th, 2025 on PS5 only.
