Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will open on Wednesday, April 2nd. If retailer Best Buy Canada announced its booking date (and quickly pulled) in a blog post on Thursday, it will open. Citing documents from the unnamed “large US retailer,” a new report from insider games says that pre-orders for Switch 2 will open in a week on April 9th.
Nintendo itself hasn’t announced when pre-orders for the Switch 2 will be live, so it’s unclear whether the company will start pre-orders on the day it keeps Nintendo’s in-person: Switch 2 Showcase (April 2), or whether it will give another week to consider the benefits of the next-generation system. passthecontroller will contact Nintendo for comment and update it when the company responds.
Nintendo has not announced the release date or price for the new system, but the Switch 2 is expected to be released in early June. This means that pre-orders may be open for around two months.
There are high expectations for a Switch successor, and Nintendo reportedly stockpiles a number of Switch 2 consoles to meet its demand. That demand can fluctuate based on how much Nintendo charges the Switch 2, but that’s something we’re supposed to know soon enough.
