Nintendo expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles for the current fiscal year. The numbers most analysts agree on are too low, but they still fall within the fastest gaming console ever.
Nintendo made forecasts in a report to investors covering the previous fiscal year ended March 2025. It also predicted sales of 45 million Switch 2 games and 4.5 million original Switches.
Before the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 was announced, analysts had forecast 20 million sales for the console’s first fiscal year before the tariffs came into effect. These estimates were supported by reports that Nintendo had an unprecedented inventory of 60-8 million consoles available on day one. Since then, it has been revealed that Nintendo has lacked efforts to provide the right Switch 2 supply for launch. The company admits it cannot meet what is called a “surprising” level of demand for consoles.
Even if Nintendo sold 15 million Switch 2 in its first 10 months, it would be one of the most successful console launches to date in the months between the June 5th release until the end of the fiscal year in March 2026. The original Switch sold 14.86 million units during a similar period from its release on March 3, 2017 until the end of the calendar year. Sony reported 13.4 million PlayStation 5S sales by the end of September 2021.
Switch 2 looks like a huge hit – no customs or duties.
