Nintendo’s sales forecast for Switch 2 will be one of the fastest gaming consoles ever, but things could change once they’ve been released.
Nintendo expects to close sales forecasts for the next fiscal year (reported by VGC) in March 2026, with around 15 million Switch 2 consoles and 45 million games to sell.
This will become the top spot for console sales. The original Switch, released earlier in the fiscal year than the Switch 2, sold just under 15 million units in its first year.
Meanwhile, both the PS4 and PS5 were released later this year, selling around 7.5 million each, but serious inventory issues prevented the PS5 from launching.
Analysts make similar predictions regarding the release and sale of Switch 2. Pre-orders are a bit confusing and it’s unclear whether Nintendo will be able to keep up with demand.
That being said, US tariffs are already causing problems with Switch 2, and the situation is still in constant liquidity.
We do not rule out price increases
Speaking to Yahoo News (via Eurogamer), Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa suggests that post-release price increases could be included in the card, depending on the tariffs.
“At this point, our number one priority is to quickly spread the Switch 2 hardware,” he said.
If your tariff assumptions change dramatically, we would like to consider a variety of factors, then create them and consider the price adjustments that should be implemented.
It’s a somewhat evasive answer, but we’ve already seen prices rise from Microsoft. Sony does the same in certain regions, and analysts believe similar hikes could soon arrive in the US.
The Consumer Technology Association is forecasting a full increase in retail technology prices, with gaming consoles expected to be hit hardest with an increase of up to 69.4%.
So far, Nintendo has tried to mitigate the impact of tariffs by increasing the price of accessories instead of the console itself, but everyone is speculating that it can maintain that.
For now, I know that at least the price of Switch 2 needs to be stable through the initial launch window, but with the possibility of price increases after the table launch, it may encourage more people to pick up the console faster than slowing it down.
