Nintendo delayed US pre-orders for Switch 2 in response to wiping out new tariffs outlined by the Trump administration earlier this week. Pre-orders were scheduled to begin on April 9th, but they were indefinitely delayed, Nintendo said Friday.
“Pre-orders for the US Nintendo Switch 2 will not begin on April 9, 2025 to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” Nintendo said in a statement provided to passthecontroller. “Nintendo will update the timing at a later date. The start date for June 5th, 2025 has not been changed.”
The Nintendo price response for Switch 2 and games (more than $79.99) was widely negative due to the system. During the livestream airing by Nintendo on Thursday and Friday, viewers relentlessly spammed one request to the company: “Drop the price!” However, it appears that US customers are unlikely to fall in prices as Trump escalates the trade war with double-digit tariffs on imports.
At this stage, it is unclear that the results of Nintendo’s Trump tariffs and valuation of “evolving market conditions” ultimately mean the launch of Switch 2. But in addition to rising costs, it could mean lower US console allocations.
