Although the current generation of consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X | S) still have a lot of life span, details of the next Xbox seem to have already been revealed.
The next latest Tidbit on Xbox comes from Jez Corden, who shares accurate information about Xbox and Microsoft related items.
The next Xbox will not be available until 2027
Speaking on the Xbox Two Podcast, Corden shares that the next Xbox will be PC, but is a “TV-friendly shell.”
Corden said, “The overall idea for Xbox next is that it’s going to be a PC in essence, but it uses a TV-friendly shell with certain specifications in mind. So, developers are built for Windows PCs, but know exactly what the specs are. It’s not about having a development kit.”
The rumors mention that it is mentioned in Ghost of Twitter/X’s Call of Duty Leaker Ghost of Hope, which states that Call of Duty 2026 is being developed using Devat on the upcoming Xbox.
Corden said, “If the information about Call of Duty is accurate (about launching on the next Gen Xbox in 2026), there is no DevKit now. So, like the idea that developers are already getting the Dev Kit for the next generation Xbox…it’s not accurate.”
In short, Corden flattens the rumours that “Call of Duty 2026 is being developed on the next Xbox Devkits.” It says it’s not true because it’s not created or shared by developers at all.
Like the devkit rumors, this is also unconfirmed information, and therefore must be treated with a single grain of salt. If this is true, gamers will get their next-gen consoles in two years.
Personally, I’m more interested in what Microsoft actually calls this because it doesn’t follow traditional numbering systems like the PS5 to PS6, and the Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox Alpha? Hopefully, when that becomes clear, we’ll see a more dynamic controller design rather than ripping the Xbox Series X | S stuff and calling it a day. That is, if you’re getting another next-gen Xbox. The former Xbox executive believes that Microsoft will stop creating hardware if given the option.
Speaking of controllers, if you prefer a PS5 dual sense controller over a traditional Xbox GamePad, accessory manufacturers are developing “competitors” controllers that look like dual sense imitations rather than for the Xbox Series X|s.
