Rumors suggest that Nether Rialum’s next project is fraud 3, and that the mortar combat franchise may be taking a break.
Earlier this month, NetherRealm Studios announced the release of Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition. This full version includes pre-order bonuses, Shang Tsung and even character skins after the recently released Mortal Kombat movie.
If this feels like the studio is tied up everything, that’s because the definitive edition caps the journey after the release of Mortal Kombat 1.
Don’t think the Mortal Kombat 1 DLC pack will be released
The announcement comes from my official Mortal Kombat Twitter/X account and has also confirmed that NetherRealm is working on his next project.
The announcement states, “We are hearing players’ requests for ongoing game support for Mortal Kombat 1. We will also continue to support Mortal Kombat 1 through balancing and modifications, but there are no additional DLC characters or story chapters released from this point.”
In another tweet, “We understand that this is a shame for fans, but the NetherRealm team needs to shift their focus to their next project to make it as great as possible.”
NetherRealm’s next project has not been revealed, but recent rumors point out fraud 3 as a project.
Released in September 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest game in the long-standing fighting game franchise, and has seen a full reboot (and therefore the title). Although it received favorable reviews at launch, it did not gain the same interest as the Mortal Kombat 11.
The last DLC fighter to appear in the game was the Terminator franchise T-1000, released in March. If NetherRealm’s next project is actually fraud 3, this means that the Mortal Kombat franchise will take a break. The developers have focused on the latest entries for DC-based fighters, and haven’t seen any new entries in nearly a decade.
At the very least, if you’re interested in Mortal Kombat 1, the decisive edition houses everything the game received after release, and it’s confirmed that more bug fixes and updates are planned, so the game isn’t completely abandoned. Don’t expect new content.
