Most people actually associate monster hunters with hunting monsters, but capture is also an important part of the pie. As the Monster Hunter Wilds players have discovered, capturing monsters and strolling around for long enough can lead to some interesting little interactions.
As Reddit users can hang around the captured monsters long enough, as rdgthegreat shows on the R/Monsterhunter subreddit, they can catch a bit of behind the scenes magic. In other words, the monster wakes up and sets off.
After capturing the nu udra and waiting, the giant cephalopod rises a bit and leaves. The joke about it feels like there’s been a few raps on the movie set. That’s fun.
As for actual intra-universe theories of why this is happening, the research team doesn’t have huge cages or anything like that. It is certainly appropriate that Monster Hunter Wilds take a more catch-and-release approach to their research, and fits through the narrative to Alma and the rest of the general attitudes.
Whatever the reason for the lore, it’s a fun moment. It’s nice that Capcom developers have come up with this scenario and planned a bit of animation rather than just fade-out. This monster looks a bit ridiculous, but now it’s kicked out into the distance, with some limbs and other appendages. But it’s a neat touch that probably adds deeper insight into how Alma and the crew are doing their research.
