Monster Hunter Wilds has plenty of weapons that can be used to carry out the extinction of all Wyverns, but the long sword combines speed and damage to create a name. The long sword is loaned out to a variety of build styles, but I found two that I found really seem to be in the best possible state of work.
Covers low and high rank builds, so no matter where you are on your journey, you will get what you need to be a real threat to those monsters. These builds should provide a good idea of what setup works well with long swords, but don’t forget that some of Monster Hunter are build crafts. Use this guide to set up your own build.
There are many ways to set up builds for success, so don’t get stuck in your way. If you want to try something, go for it! Help us with this guide and help us get started on your path.
Lower position
This build combines Rey Dau and Ebony Odogaron equipment and leans heavily towards burst, potential and power extension skills. These will keep your damage high throughout the hunt and can do serious damage when combined with Odogallon’s burst boost.
- burst – Continuous landing will increase your attacks and elemental attacks gradually. (The amount that increases depends on the weapon.)
- Potential – When certain conditions are met, it temporarily increases affinity (critical chance) and reduces stamina depletion.
- Power is expanded – Allows long swords, dual blades, insect glow, switch shafts, and charging blades to provide longer power.
The goal here is to stay as attacking as possible to stack buffs. Once you reach the Max Charge with a long sword, you should consistently deal powerful damage.
At this point, the decorations are pretty limited, so the build is gear-centric. Use decorations that fit your fantasy and it works here.
I went this early because of the additional decorative slots that the gear offers. I’m welcome to use any decoration you like for this, but I would recommend throwing another level of power polonger or burst.
It helps to keep your gauge filled and helps keep you at peak damage for longer. Odgallon pieces are an integral part of this, so we welcome you to trade Reidau pieces. Personally, I think the potential of this build is quite useful as it always deals damage.
High rank
This build is very similar to a low-rank build, but with some extra bonuses to get you involved in the fight. The combination of bursts, power speed, critical draws and punishment draws will always maximize your damage.
- Critical Draw – Increases affinity when performing draw attacks. (It is not effective while riding.)
- Punish a draw – Adds a stun effect to draw out attacks and slightly increase attack power. (It is not effective while riding.)
It will help you with your damage, but for defense, you will rely quite heavily on God’s blessings and avoid the extender. If you have decorations, it is recommended to use one or two to increase Evade Extender.
It is recommended to change any amulet, but you can put on ear plugs and hunt quickly, dealing extra damage between the roars.
There is not a very wiggle room for this in terms of gear, as it requires both burst and agitator skills. High-ranked monsters are always furious, so it’s raw damage and bursts of agitators. The best place to adjust here is in the decorations.
Focus on putting yourself in battle and using your draw skills to avoid damage. It hits violently and fast, but stays mobile and even arched monsters don’t have a chance against you.
Recommended long sword
Long swords with low ranks are decent to deal damage, but of the two, it is recommended that Lompo Hackers exert power speed and take additional damage thanks to their poison attribute. Dosha Gravecleaver makes a good addition as it helps to incorporate into the high-ranked version of the weapon.
Neither of these weapons are the most powerful, but the extra damage offered by hackers is handy. Gravecleaver does not have any kind of elements, but it does have the most raw damage to the weapon.
In the case of high rank, the cemetery boasts the most raw damage of all the long swords. It sacrifices affinity, but thanks to the critical draw, you can almost deny it and increase the damage much more.
Dimencius is great, but it is an artist’s weapon, so you may have a hard time finding the piece you want or need. Although you can make several different things, the beauty of a cemetery is that it suits any hunt.
No matter what you use, remember that your build may not be the right target and there may be all the right pieces. Some builds may be suitable for most challenges, but creating something more specific may be useful frequently.
Don’t forget to experiment! Come up with your own build and be ready to take part in the arena quests at Grand Hub, so refine as long as you’re ready to truly test your skills!
You can also plan on building your friends (i.e. if you have friends to play with). Even if you don’t, you can always have some random entries!
