Light bowguns are mechanically very similar. There is a large Arsenal, but only three ranged weapons available, and the light bowgun certainly carves out the place with the heavy bowgun and bow.
Bowguns is a bit different for Monster Hunter Wilds, but if you’re familiar with the previous title, there should be so many issues. Considering all the skills and armor on offer, it can be a bit daunting at first, but knowing what works well with the weapons you are using always gives a great advantage.
This guide covers low and high rank builds, but more than that, you’ll get ideas about what works with a light bowgun, so you can create your own builds. You’ll definitely experiment yourself and figure out what’s best for a particular PlayStyle.
Low rank build
One of the main draws for the Bowguns is its versatility in combat, from applying different debuffs to dealing different types of elemental damage. This can make the difference between victory and defeat when going out hunting.
This build focuses on dealing the most damage from constant onslaught with skills like burst, tetrad shot, maximum power. If you have a favorite decoration, there are three level 1 slots to use, but I recommend at least reducing the cost of avoiding.
- Burst – Provides damage boost for each successive attack on the target.
- Tetrad shot – Increases the affinity of Bowgun ammunition/coating from fourth and sixth shots and attacks.
- Maximum ability – Increases affinity if stamina is kept full for a certain period of time.
You can also get a surge in stamina, closing your stamina and maintaining maximum activation. It should help you get out of trouble by working with more stamina, but it’s up to you to dodge.
Unless you’re focused on monsters, you almost always need to take part in attacks. Using piercing ammunition is also a good idea as this build is also often triggered. It’s about making other ammunition types more effective and taking advantage of the affinity (critical chance) you gain from Tetrad shots.
Try a variety of powders and magazines with your bowgun to see what suits your needs. I ran the piercing ammunition powder and special ammunition magazine and worked well with bursts and tetrad shots.
High Rank Build
There are more options for building so you can focus more on getting the best skills for lighter bowguns. Again, I would like to focus on damage and skills that enhance the natural benefits of light bowguns, such as applying debuffs and increasing the power of special ammunition.
You will be focusing on the best skills that give light bowguns significant hunting benefits, such as ballistics, opening shots, bursts, and special ammunition boosts. These help you avoid being bullied by monsters, along with others like Evade Extender and Evade Window, and not being bullied from afar.
- Ballistics – Increases the range of attacks.
- Opening shot – Increases bowgun reload speed and bullet force when fully loaded.
- Special ammo boost – Increases Bowgan special ammunition power, Bow Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, Tracers.
- Avoid windows – Extend the immortal window while avoiding it.
- Avoid extenders – Increases the avoidance distance.
Keep in time with what you have as it will stay with the decorations you have until you hit the HR 100.
The goal of this build is to put pressure on monsters with different ammunition types and increased damage. Evasion should be a little easier to survive and there should be plenty of time for you to react to any attack.
Burst is always a great idea if you want to add extra damage, but the agitator is not a bad choice either. Sometimes the best tool for work is not the Swiss Army Knife, so it serves as a guide to getting ready to build this build yourself.
Recommended Bowgun
Definitely the best light bowgun in the game, you certainly want your endgame build. Thanks to the shot and slugger opening, this packs a real punch. This helps in dealing high damage at all times.
For low ranks, you will naturally come with Tetrad shots. The options are fairly limited so it’s useful early on, but if you’re not enjoying your playstyle, you can always change the focus of your build.
With so many weapons and armor you can choose from, there are virtually an infinite number of builds and hundreds of hours to test these builds. If something isn’t working, try to refine your build a bit. Or try something completely new. There is no wrong choice for such a game.
