Most open world games take dozens of hours to complete, but that’s not the case for Mindseye, the debut game of former Grand Theft Auto developer Leslie Benzies.
Benji’s comments about the length of the game and at this age and age, at this age and age, is why people target relatively few numbers to complete their campaigns for the game, as there are so many different options for entertaining themselves outside of the game.
Mindseye developers don’t want a “200 hours” game
Speaking to Games Industry, Benzies was asked about Mindseye’s $60 price. This is the price of a game from 10 years ago and how the developers determined the length and range of the game.
The Benzies have confirmed that the campaign will take 20 hours to complete, but the game also has side content for people to bite. “So you have a Mind-Eye Campaign, and yes, it’s about 20 hours. But you have all this other side content: there’s this continuous flow of content,” adds Benzies. “Now, people have so many different options. It’s not just games. There’s streaming TV and a lot of good shows. I don’t think they have filler content in the game. People want meat and they want potatoes.
Continuing with his answer, Benzies adds that, according to the data, most people who ultimately don’t play “big games” continue. “I think that’s a good length for the game. What you can see through the data is that it’s a big game and people don’t play everything.
On top of that, the Benzies said, “When you’re making something, I like – I’ll like – I’ll like – I’ll say the team the same thing – (it) You don’t create this 200-hour game from start to finish.
As for the $60 price tag, the Benzies mentions that “the world is in an interesting place.” Given that people are worried about the price of eggs, “I think people are grateful when times are difficult because it’s worth the money.”
I’m not against low-priced games. So we’re shifting to a $80 game, and that’s why any product we want to lower prices.
The Benzies have a point about games with too many fillers these days. I would rather play a short game that respects my time than a huge 100-hour game that was forced to go to missions to collect items just to fill the length of the game. Thankfully, gamers are bothering you, and more and more developers are presuming this acinin game’s design, knowing that longer games don’t necessarily mean they’re worth the money.
Benzies’ Studio, Build A Rocket Boy recently made waves as a virtually appealed competitor of studio co-CEO GERHARD, a competitor who smashed the game and his studio. This came after a recent preview seemed to be in the advantage for Mindseye.
Can this new IP and studio capture GTA magic? Mindseye will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC on June 10th, so you’ll know immediately.
