This price hike could become the norm, and other highly anticipated games could probably follow suit.
Nintendo announced that the Switch 2 would feature a $80 game for the first time, so people were worried that other game makers would follow suit. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened.
Microsoft warns about the imminent Xbox price hike for Xbox Gaming products in May, but it looks like it will become a reality as Microsoft unveils its first $80 game.
Oddly enough, it’s not Call of Duty or Mega-Franchise, but a game that doesn’t seem to be more expensive considering it’s a sequel to the game that priced the first entry on the regular $70 list.
Xbox enters $80 territory for games starting this year
The first Xbox game for $80 is The Outer Worlds 2 by Obsidian Entertainment! The Action-RPG release date was revealed on the Xbox Games Showcase. However, the pages for the games Steam, PlayStation Store and Xbox Store have been released, so that those happy moments have disappeared, and we have confirmed that the game will cost $79.99 when the game launches.
The game will be available on the first day on the Game Pass, but should help ease the slightest blow for Xbox and PC players, but PS5 gamers who want to play the first day have no choice but to accept the $80 price tag.
It’s a difficult drug to swallow, given that this generation has won a $10 price hike across the game. The sad part is that this is just the beginning. Expect more games to get higher prices. Sony hasn’t announced that none of the games will price it at $80, but it’s only a matter of time until they do.
With more games priced at $80, I think Grand Theft Auto 6 will cost almost $80 (or even more) when it’s released next year. That said, not all games are created equally. GTA 6 is perhaps the most anticipated game of all time, and even at a price of $90 or $100, people are likely to bite considering the franchise’s lasting power is legendary. We fully expect that we are still talking about the GTA 6 beyond this console generation.
It’s not tattered in Outer World 2, but not on the same level as the GTA 6, so gamers may take a waiting attitude towards the price before picking it up.
Are you ready for the future at $80 per game? Because it’s already here.
