Meta is reportedly working on a version of Ray-Ban smart glasses that includes a single display for viewing photos and apps. Now, according to something new Bloomberg A report from Mark Garman aims to showcase it later this year along with the XR controller on the wrist.
Just like before Bloomberg It is said that the device will be called “HyperNova” since January. Citing Meta employees, the device costs between $1,000 and $1,400, but the final price has not been determined yet.
The company’s $300 Ray-Ban Metaglass price increase is reportedly driven by including a single display that doesn’t include any kind of display, but in the lower right quadrant of the right lens.
Unlike augmented reality glasses that correctly place digital images in the user’s field of vision, the described devices are closer to functional Google Glass. Find out more about the differences between smart glasses and AR glasses with our complete explainer.
Bloomberg’s In the latest report, HyperNova includes a dedicated app for taking photos, viewing photos and accessing maps. This also includes notifications from phone apps such as Messenger and WhatsApp.
Hypenova is said to be “highly dependent on the Meta View Phone app,” and despite running a customized version of Android, it may not include its own onboard app store.
However, it is said to include many of the same features of Ray-Ban Metaglass, such as capturing images and video, accessing AI via built-in microphones, and accessing phones and AI for phones and music playback.
Additionally, it is said that HyperNova has acquired spec bumps in the camera division. The latest version of the Meta Ray-Ban comes with a 12-megapixel camera similar to the quality iPhone 11 (2019). Instead, HyperNova hopes to “comparable to the iPhone 13 from 2021,” according to people familiar with the issue.
Like the company’s undisplayed Ray-Ban glasses, the report keeps users able to control HyperNova using capacitive touch controls found in the temple and scroll through media.

However, it appears that Meta is ultimately aiming to commercialize wrist-decorated XR controllers to detect pinch and hand rotation for UI selection using sarcoma (EMG) sensors. Hypernova is said to be bundled into a box with a decorative controller on the wrist.
Bloomberg The second-generation HyperNova 2, which is being maintained, is already underway. This is said to include a binocular head-up display system (again, smart glasses, not AR) along with people familiar with the issues that were released in 2027.
Certainly anything can happen. Meta regularly shelves products later in development, such as variants that are allegedly cancelled devices. None Cameras – A move targeted at lower costs and increased user privacy.
Still, HyperNova probably isn’t that Next Smart Glass Device Meta Release. The report maintains that Meta has finalized “Supernova 2.” It works like Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, but is in a sporty Oakley design.
All of this leads to Meta’s first true AR glasses release. The company revealed internal developer Kit Orion in late 2024. Meta CTO and Reality Lab chief Andrew Bosworth said AR devices based on their work with Orion could be priced “at least in phone space, in laptop territory” before 2030.
