Wizard of the Coast gradually unfolds what was prepared for magic. This summer, Gathering and its big Final Fantasy Crossover. Over the weekend, the team debuted quite a bunch of chunks from both the main set and the Commander deck, with fans enjoying the fun and amazing cuts of their favorite Final Fantasy game.
In a universe that goes beyond collaboration with Final Fantasy, it has won both the regular commander treatment and booster-driven series. Many of cards passing through. Tinker in the main set with the entire mainline of Final Fantasy, running from Final Fantasy 1 to Final Fantasy 16. Meanwhile, the Commander Deck focuses on four specific games: Final Fantasy 6, 7, 10, and 14.
Some of the cards shown in the panel of last Saturday’s Magic: Pax East gatherings filmed individual character journeys throughout the game. For example, Cecil in Final Fantasy IV has an entire mechanic who transforms from the Dark Knight into a Paladin. The Final Fantasy Summon utilizes the “Saga Creature” setup to act as a powerful but temporary force on the field, blending magic and the concept of Final Fantasy in the process.
After that, there are cards like Sephiroth, Fabled Soldier, and artwork from Tetsuya Nomura in Square. Transforms along the card show the various forms of Sephiroth across the universe in FF7. From the young fighter, Sephiroth, the card of Sephiroth, the one-winged angel, is safe.
And without some CIDs, what would Final Fantasy be? The Final Fantasy Set includes CIDs from each of the numbered Final Fantasy games, but the Wizard has chosen the old CID from his daughter Cindy’s Final Fantasy XV.
However, after Saturday’s panel, Wizards of the Coast released the deck list for the aforementioned four Commander decks, and fans began art and adding to see how the team adapted these four Final Fantasy games to magic. Quite in the end.
Get a clever crossover in Final Fantasy lore, or in a newer version of existing magic cards. For example, Skullclamp paints art for the Jenova project in Final Fantasy 7.
Together, forever, they will suffer emotional stabs to Final Fantasy 10 fans. It is no surprise that Final Fantasy 10 has several emotional sources for the central protagonist to travel through devastated lands and bring out the emotional sources above the sad pilgrimage. Incidentally, you might want to join these deck lists, as some deck cards reference some notable character moments.
However, to brighten up the more iconic and frequently memetic things from Final Fantasy 10, the moment was cut with an exciting call.
In fact, the Wizard has found several ways to incorporate less serious moments in Final Fantasy into the cards. The clever cover-up spins into the wall market scene where Clouds, Ellis and Tifa head to the dress, heading towards Don Corneo, even a mechanic that is sometimes considered appropriate. I’m a huge fan of the Secret Rendezvous cards. This comes in four different versions of the Golden Saucer date scene from Final Fantasy 7, with the Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie and Barret potential dates.
Still, fans are discovering small details that show how much respect is being paid for the source material. In particular, the Final Fantasy 14 set contains quite a few references to the highly acclaimed MMORPG. The Hildibrand Manderville card mimics the habit of an infamous gentleman disappearing and returning, making very interesting white/black cards in the process.
One user of FFXIV SubredDit noted that Archaeomancer’s map cards use real possible locations, for example, in the Gaganaskin Treasure map.
Next, players in Final Fantasy 14 enjoy the cards. There are some jokes about looking at the “this, this was overhanging” meme and wondering who the cards you tasted represent. And there is text in alternative flavors that users have added to the replication card ritual, commemorating everyone’s favorite speeches from reincarnation.
Even the Tome of Legends card has all the little details you can see in-game when the player picks up the tail and, of course, misses some row connections.
There was a clear attention to detail contained in these cards and it was intriguing to see the complete set. The Commander game has a lot of love with these cards, but some releases from Saturday’s panel, like the commune with Beaver, are hoping to see how some of the other Final Fantasy games have been adapted to the complete magical set.
The Magic: Gathering Final Fantasy Set will be released on June 13th, 2025, with a weekend before its release one week before its release.
