Of the many optional bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Chromatic Orphelin is one of the interesting ones. This coloured nebron is hidden in areas that are easy to miss, as it is optional.
When you encounter a boss, you will find that unlike other creatures like the Bourgeon in flying waters, you will have to defeat three enemies in this battle. They only have one weakness, so being unprepared for a fight can be a disaster recipe.
So whether you’re after the weapon it drops, or whether you’re looking for that XP, or just a fight. Here’s how to defeat Chromatic Orferin in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33:
Where is Chromatic Orflin?
You can find chromatic orferin in the yellow harvest. This boss can fight in the first act itself, but you will need to unlock Esky to walk on the rocks that block the path to this area.
To go to the yellow harvest, move northwest from the hidden guestral arena. The location must be recognised by the giant stone creature above and the yellow grass spots and trees at the entrance.
Explore the area until you reach the third expedition flag 68. Follow the natural path and when you reach an open area, turn right and head towards the shelf. Climb it and move forward. You will see tunnels that you can drop.
Drop and then go right and find three nevrons working on building something. Attack them and start the fight.
How to prepare for the battle of Chromatic Orflin
The chromatic orferin trio is vulnerable to earth damage. Therefore, the best members of this battle are characters with runes and weapons that deal elemental damage to Earth.
Now, just because you know their weaknesses doesn’t put them that dangerous. This boss uses a devastating attack. This status effect brings you a 10% reduction in maximum HP. The worst part is that you can stack these effects.
Aside from devastation, this boss has a move that allows you to kill a character with one hit.
Here are the best parties to fight it, their recommended skills, and boss mobileists:
The best party members
I went on this fight after starting Act 2. My party consisted of Runes, Verso and Mael At levels 22, 21, and 21, respectively.
Let’s start with the runes. The four skills she absolutely must learn are rock slides, Earth Rising, Healing Light, and Regeneration.
The first two are used in combat to deal with elemental damage in the trio they are weak. When it comes to healing light and rebirth, these skills will help you dispel devastation and revive your team. That was the weapon I used with her.
Verso has the ability to get weapons that handle the damage to the Earth. You can get it as a drop from the goat enemies you encounter in the Yellow Harvest. Skills Assault Zero, Zero from Fire, and Markshot, paired with this weapon, looked like he got the job done for me.
Finally, in Maelle’s case, the weapon I was equipped with is obtained to defeat Glaze. I didn’t have Earth skills with her, but I ended up using Perce, rain rain, and a degree.
You can use items during Maelle’s turn to heal, energize and revive party members.

How to defeat Chromatic Orferin in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Whenever you get a chance, rune earth rises or attacks colours with rock slides. RockSlide is usually better for getting higher damage. But if you forget to learn, equip or equip this skill, the rise of the Earth isn’t that bad either. The good thing is that Earth rise hits all enemies on the battlefield.
Your main goal is to keep your runes alive as much as possiblebecause her elemental attacks on Earth are extremely important to this whole battle. Even if it sacrifices that it must be at the expense of other party members to turn healing, energising and revival of Runes. Keeping her safe is worth it.
It’s not enough to keep her alive. The next important thing is to receive attacks from all enemies. Depending on when you choose to fight this enemy, you may or may not have the right weapon to deal with Earth damage. Therefore, in order to enhance damage, you should prioritize avoiding or accepting attacks.
Verso allows you to mark enemies using marking shots. Not only can you debuff the mark, but you can also deal decent damage if you are equipped with Gaulteram.
Maelle’s offensive switch works in a similar way to marking shots. You can use it to apply unprotected debuffs to your targets to reduce enemy defenses by 25%.
The main move that needs to be noted is the spin attack of chromatic orferin. So if you are facing this movement for the first time, try avoiding it first. This should not only keep you safe, but also give you a better idea about the timing of your parry.
Continuing to attack chromatic orferin at the counter with Earth damage and counter will slowly but surely die.
