summary
- Warner Bros has cancelled the Hogwarts legacy and the complete definitive edition from the highly anticipated DLC.
- The project has been made into canned as it has been reported to be lacking in content priced by DLC.
- This happens amidst other failures, such as Suicide Squad, Multivers and the unreleased Wonder Woman Game.
Although it has never been officially announced, it was a rather open secret from last year that the Warner Bros video game unit was developing a highly anticipated DLC for its hit title, Hogwarts Legacy.
However, as a recent Bloomberg report released, Plans by Warner Bros. for the expansion were permanently suspended during a recent company restructuring. Additionally, the entire “decisive edition” of the game, packed with all the add-on content, has also been cancelled.
This cancellation is surprising given how much legacy has impacted the company in terms of revenue and sales. With the cancellation of this project, Warner Bros. has tinned one of the few experiences that have made fans so enthusiastic.
Still, cancelling the project also makes sense when considering Warner Bros. mountain mountains recently due to studio shutdowns and restructuring.
Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most successful and most recent titles in the Warner Bros. catalog, which has sold over 30 million units since its release in 2023.
However, the success of Hogwarts legacy cannot reduce the number of mistakes Warner Bros faced around its release. Titles like Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League have slowed down on a critical level, denies Warner Bros.’s ambition to own the next big live service title.
So, since then, they have undergone heavy company restructuring, including many individual layoffs and three studio closures. Additionally, multiplayer services such as Multivers have been shut down, and other planned titles such as Wonder Woman Games have also been canned.
However, expectations for an expansion of Hogwarts legacy were not usually touched. After all, it appears that only Golden Goose Warner Bros were planning a later release, and it’s a bit surprising to see the reasons behind the DLC cancellation.
Hogwarts Legacy DLC cancelled due to lack of content
According to the Bloomberg Report, The anonymous leak behind this decision was that the actual content was “not important enough to justify the price being considered.”
Given that a disappointing DLC can place bad coverage behind all the experience as a whole, it makes sense for Warner Bros. to stop the expansion progression. It could also mean not creating value for money from the project.
DLCs are usually sold for just a small portion of the game’s base price, and usually contain a lot of content and can also be equivalent to the scale of the base game. This could be the best thing to do in the future as Warner Bros. is trying their best to recover costs and gain expectations for larger projects ahead.
Also, there is a very high chance that the Hogwarts Legacy 2 project is under development. Warner Bros. previously said that developing the title is a top priority within the company. This cancellation is even a way to save the face of a full-fledged sequel.
That being said, it’s hard to see such a predicted expansion biting dust so unexpectedly, as it has become one of the Warner Bros.’s consistent releases within the last few years, with how popular Hogwarts Legacy has become.
