summary

  • Kojima’s game ideas include innovative concepts about life and aging as mechanisms.

  • Players age in the game, gradually lose their abilities and require continuous play.

  • Kojima also proposed a “forgotten game” in which the character’s abilities deteriorate over time.

Legendary game creator Hideo Kojma may have gained fame with Metal Gear Solid Franchise, but the artist is also known for pushing ideas for games that are far away.

Death 2: While still in the oven on the beach, Kojima is discussing some of his game ideas and hearing about them makes him even more grateful for Kojima’s brilliance.

The island has game ideas based on concepts about life

Hideo Kojima

Kojima aired the latest episode of his podcast koji10, in which he gave listeners an insight into how he thinks about game design.

One of Kojima’s ideas had something to do with the passage of time as a game mechanic. “The player is born, you are a child, and gradually become an adult. In the game you fight against various enemies. As in the previous example (end of MGS3), if you continue playing the game, you will become a man of 70 or 80. Kojima shared it (via IGN).

Kojima explains that while your character may feel better when he is younger, he has more knowledge and experience as he gets older. This affects your strategy for dealing with your enemy. Kojima believes that while the people on the podcast have justified interest, they will not buy this type of game.

Another game concept he has is when the player creates things like wine and cheese that take time to age/mature. This requires players to continue playing the game gradually over a long period of time.

The last idea is probably the best idea, about “forgotten games” that players need to “play quickly”. The core concept of this is that the main character gradually forgets important information and abilities when the player takes too long to rest from the game. For example, if you don’t play the game every day, the main character will gradually forget how to fire a gun and what the job is. This accumulates until the player is finally unable to move. “Players will have to go on break from work or school,” Kojima joked.

I have to admit, they are games I’m interested in playing – especially about aging. Of course, Kojima could even consider first monitoring death and developing some of those concepts into a real game.

Considering that Kojima has already said he wants to hand over the next death match to someone else, he will probably have time to play some of those games. So he still has feature films, Xbox horror games, and spy games for Sony to experience, but maybe later? Maybe we can see these concepts in one of his games.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is scheduled to be released on PS5 on June 26, 2025, and has recently been confirmed to have multiple graphical modes.
