Here’s what Troy Baker did to sound uncannily like Indiana Jones

Here’s what Troy Baker did to sound uncannily like Indiana Jones

Is there a developer of Indiana Jones and the Great – A few years ago, when they were first outlined the core pillars of the game, they felt like they knew what they were in when they decided to go on the full Rikenneth route. In other words, the main character of the game is not only “Indiana Jones”, but he also watches, makes noises and moves. Harrison Ford as Indiana JonesSpecifically, it’s a version of a character that fans knew about and loved from the original 1980s trilogy. Y’Know, Indy is not in the elderly in the latter two films, but in his barrel-boobed prime.

It’s miracle that any game can be made, but it’s especially miraculous that machine games have pulled this incredibly ambitious goal. It all comes down to Troy Baker. The famous voice actor provided an indelible performance as Joel Our LastSam Drake Inn Uncharted 4: The End of the Thiefand many other video game roles, but few characters are more popular with imagination than Indiana Jones. I wasn’t going to cut it except for the best recreation for Ford’s voice pitch.

Courtesy of a new video issued by BAFTA on Friday, there is insight from developers into how Baker managed the feat. He started the project in a way, in some way. Baker appeared at the first table – it was carried out via the Microsoft team because it was during the pandemic – with “Indiana Jones” as the screen name, and he also brought Indy’s Fedora and Bullwhip into the session.

She and voiceover designer Emily Hessler give performance director Tom Keegan a lot of credit. Tom Keegan’s resume includes multiple Wolfenstein and Star Wars games. Keegan “will do well in making people into characters,” Hessler says. Around the 7:20 mark of the 27-minute video, Hessler plays a voice-over recording of Baker, who growls like Indy – just a second or two of them crying as he throbs – and then calls out a special source that is so remarkable.

“I think it’s so indie and very indie,” Hessler said, laughing in shock at the clip. “I don’t know, there are so many personalities in it, and a lot more kicked in the face than he does.”

For Hessler, the sound of Baker’s groaning tells you that while Indy is frustrated with finding herself in this situation, the performance conveys a sense of strength and resolution.

“I feel good, breathtaking,” continues Hessler. “I take my breath. I mean, there’s still tone there, but… ah, and there’s something that sounds like he’s frustrated at the same time. You have to have some sort of attitude or personality. And yeah, again, Troy pulls it away very well.”

Even after a few dozen hours I spent playing Indiana Jones and the GreatI still marvel at Baker’s performance as an Indy. He shared the outstanding character award at the 2025 Dice Awards. The game is scheduled to debut on the PlayStation 5 this spring.
