Free-to-Play Shooter Spectre Divide Shutting Down Weeks After Console Launch

Free-to-Play Shooter Spectre Divide Shutting Down Weeks After Console Launch

The free-to-play 3V3 shooting game split is closed six months after its initial launch in September 2024, and just a few weeks after its arrival on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|s. Developer Mountaintop Studios is also closed.

MOTINGOP CEO Nate Mitchell We confirmed the news in a statement released on social media today.

“Unfortunately, the launch of Season 1 has not achieved the level of success required to keep the game up and float the summit,” the post explains.

Spectre splits the battle

The team was optimistic after the first week, reporting that the game had attracted around 400,000 players.

“However, over time, we haven’t seen enough active players and incoming revenue to cover the daily costs of Specter and Studio,” the post continued. “Since the launch of the PC, we’ve grown as much capital as possible, but at this point we’re lacking the funds to support the game.”

“We continued to pursue all the paths, including finding publishers, additional investments, and/or acquisitions. Ultimately, we couldn’t make it work. The industry is in a tough place right now.”

Spectre’s disparity will go offline within the next 30 days, with any money spent by players since the release of Season 1 being refunded.

This news goes against the October 2024 report that the “Spector Disparity” “doesn’t go anywhere.”

“The server has not been shut down and updates will not stop,” Mitchell maintains. Mountaintop had “funds to support Spector for a long time.”

A positive preview of Spectre Divide’s Passthecontroller in August 2024 praised the tactical 3V3 shooting game for players to come to the table with an attractive duality system in which players control two characters during the match. But news of that rapid closure comes right after many other live services Fiza, including the failure of Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Sony’s Concord.
