Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is scheduled to be released on May 21st with early access. Netmarble and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced.
The action-adventure role-playing game based on George RR Martin’s much-loved fantasy universe is set to be released on all mobile platforms and PC via Steam, The Epic Games Store and Windows.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be released in March on Early Access Form and will have a “mixed” user review rating on Steam. Most of the negative reviews revolve around its monetization. This is called “greed.” “It’s like a steroid mobile game, and it’s not a good way to do it,” reads current “most helpful” reviews on Valve’s platform.
In a release date FAQ posted to Steam, Netmarble addressed the expected gap between early access progress and new players. Game of Thrones: Kingsroad said it was “fundamentally designed with a focus on single-player gameplay,” and that it “worked to minimize feelings of imbalance and injustice that could arise from differences in progress.”
The tests were conducted to improve the game, and the development team continued, “to improve the game and make it more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.”
“We encourage all players to focus on the inherent fun of moving forward to the later stages and reaching endgame content rather than comparing them to other characters,” Netmarble suggested.
Netmarble continued to apologise for previous communications and patches, but admitted it was “somewhat lacking.”
“From now on, we will be working on more frequent and transparent communication through our regular AMA sessions and developer notes,” he added. “We ask for continued expectations and support as we approach the official launch.”
As you would expect from such a game, there is a Premium Founder Pack that offers early access and other exclusive in-game content. Mobile players can pre-register via the App Store and Google Play Store on iOS and Android devices prior to their grand launch.
