Developer Heart Machine is ready to offer the first major update of Hyper Light Breaker, known as “below” on April 29th. Not only does this bring new content to the game, but players can also expect changes to the gameplay loop.
There are trailers that new content players can expect, and trailers highlight the shift in run structure that turns it into a Roguel-like experience.

Here are some things players can expect when it comes to changes in execution structure:
The big change here is that only one player will have life per run. When you die, you lose items in stock and reset your overgrowth. The developers say this has been changed to balance the game.
- extraction – Other options for players: Not only is there only one way to leave overgrowth (via telepad), but players can also extract at any shrine of overgrowth, and there are no waves of enemy defeated as before. This change allows players to extract more frequently, resulting in a simpler game. This was one of the main requests from players to adjust the game’s difficulty.
- sycoms – Following a class-like system, more loadout potential: Character customizations have been redesigned and assigned to Sycom, which has been assigned fixed stats to each breaker, and players have the option of equipping SYCOM perks that grant the breaker new passive abilities. Rondo’s Sycom, for example, has an appointable perk called “Bladedancer,” which increases Rondo’s damage and attack speed. You can upgrade your Sycom statistics further at overgrowth shrines. Inspired by player feedback, this change allows each breaker to feel different from each other, allowing individual builds to be created for each breaker, as each breaker is similar to a “class.”
- Inventory and vendors – It’s more streamlined: The Vault system will be changed. Once you die, Vault inventory will no longer be carried over between runs, except for Golden Prations, the in-game meta-development currency. This allows you to focus solely on getting new gear while running, rather than focusing on managing inventory frequently as often as before. Additionally, the vendors of overgrowth and cursed front posts also have new roles, with bright blood and materials being used for purchases and upgrades. Gear sales have been removed from Hub Vendors, but players can use them to enhance the equipment items.
The developers have confirmed that there is much more to be done in the early access phase of Hyper Light Breaker, with the next major content update scheduled for this summer, and that it is the game’s biggest content update. “Look twice as much trouble, embark on a quest and expect to go where the breakers haven’t been going before with the next major content drop,” says Hart Machine.
Although there is no score in reviews for the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, he said, “despite early access, Hyper Light Breaker has fully forced its excellent quality with a tightly designed gameplay loop and very satisfying combat.”
