One of the most predicted RPGs in recent memory was released last week, but I have not mentioned Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. In case you didn’t know, a small indie developer named Sandfall Interactive has released the first ever game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
The old-fashioned turn-based RPG not only surprised gamers, but also impressed many critics. So far, it’s the best reviewed game of 2025. Publisher Kepler Interactive doesn’t share sales, but the game is off to a promising start.
The first weekend of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 saw the game hit over 98,000 simultaneous players highs on Steam, according to Steam Charts! This means that the Expedition 33 has already broken the Steam Concurrent Player count of 85,000 last year. Metaphorical Fantasia has been nominated for the Multiple Game of the Year Awards and is considered one of the best games released last year.
While 98K may not seem very similar compared to some games, it is worth noting that Expedition 33 is a purely single-player game and not even an AAA project. On the contrary, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was created by a team of 30 people and there was no marketing push for most big-name AAA releases.
Additionally, this 98K number does not take into account players on the PS5 and Xbox Series X}.
Released this Thursday, the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is already selling 500.000 units. This comes with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and the Shadow Drop releases available in Game Pass.
