Clair Obscur: Are you familiar with Expedition 33? Otherwise, the RPG is turning its head and what developer Sandfall Interactive has shown so far looks very impressive.
At first glance, we might assume that classic JRPG classics like Final Fantasy games inspired developers. The legendary RPG franchise is certainly one of Sandfall’s inspiration, but that’s not the only one.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is inspired by the soul
In an interview with Gamesradar at the Game Developers Conference, producer and studio co-founder François Meurisse shares some of the inspirations for the studio creating Clair Obscur.
Meurisse said, “Final Fantasy 10: and “Previous PlayStation stuff like 7, 8, 9” were some of the biggest inspirations for the RPGs under development.
Not only these games, but one title from the developers of Software is inspiration, making it one of the most difficult games in a Japanese studio. No, it’s not Eldenling.
“It’s a big childhood game for our game director Guillaume (Broche). He wanted to feel like he imagined that if he kept going with turn-based things he would have remained in a game like modern Final Fantasy. But he’s got a mix of different inspirations, and there’s more real-time components.
Even the Final Fantasy series and Sekiro are not a bad set of games to get inspiration. But I hope it doesn’t try to mimic the difficulty of pulling Sekior’s hair.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is due to be released next month, and we have already got some hands on it. Our preview was very bright. “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 shows all the right things that lead to a release.
