The former rockstar veteran responded to rumors that recent rumors could be in work to say the game should be remastered once it’s re-released on the latest generation of consoles.
The GTA 4 rumors began life with a post from TEZ2, known within the GTA community, which leaked Rockstar information. TEZ2 suggests that GTA 4 ports for the latest systems could be released this year, and its existence was part of the reason Rockstar recently shut down the GTA 5 Liberty City Mod.
However, it is worth highlighting that Rockstar is not planning to re-release GTA 4, and in reality, such a game would be a huge surprise given the studio’s ongoing focus on GTA 6.
Obbe Vermeij, former technical director of Rockstar Games who worked for the company from 1995 to 2009, was asked about GTA 4 rumors on social media. He hadn’t heard of them, but he said the GTA 4, which he worked on, “should be remastered.”
“It’s a great game and there have been a lot of successful remasters recently,” he added. It probably refers to the extremely popular The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
“I want to update it,” Vermeij continued in another social media post. “Nico is the best hero in any GTA game.”
As for how this potential remaster works, Vermeij suggested that Rockstar port GTA 4 to the latest version of Rage Engine.
Again, it is worth pointing out that Rockstar is not offering fans plans to remaster the GTA 4. You need to remember the huge effort that is the GTA6.
Rockstar I did it It handles the ports to an external studio, similar to the ports in Red Dead Redemption, but the timing of the 2025 GTA 4 re-release makes little sense when you think about the 2025 early fall 2025 release window. If the GTA 6 is not behind, Rockstar will sell the GTA 4 remaster and GTA 6 in the same window, distracting viewers from the main event.
Some GTA fans who are sticking to Liberty City believe the location could become the GTA 6 as a DLC at or after release.
Liberty City was a New York City take on the GTA series, setting for the 2008 GTA 4 and the 2009 spinoff GTA: Chinatown Wars. GTA 6 is set in a fictional state of Leonida (Florida), which includes the sub-city where GTA won Miami.
