As players dive deep into the endgame of Elden Ring Nightrign, they unleash many skins from Software, laid out as alternative options and rewards. It’s not so surprising that many of them are references to previous Souls games, but some of the deeper cuts are certainly interesting.
Souls Youtuber Bonfirevn compared the origins of each soul game with Dark Souls Skins by Elden Ring Nightrign. These skins unlock after clearing the final boss of the Eldenling Night League and provide a large visual shakeup for various Night Farrers in the area.
These “throwback” skins are callbacks to various parts of Dark Souls history, primarily through the NPCs and armor sets seen throughout the game. It’s a good nostalgia and a way to commemorate how Eldenling carries the soul torch in front of it. However, as Bonfirevn shows, some of the options and details are pretty interesting.
The Guardian Solaia outfit, called the Sunlight Night outfit, is a rather obvious reference to everyone’s favorite Dark Souls 1 NPC. The Raider’s Katarina outfit is an equally clear reference to Katarina’s Siegmeyer.
However, in a set like The Duchess’ Wraith costume, you can see the evolution of Darkwraith’s design in the process of the soul and how that set evolved from its first appearance to Nightreign.
Others like Sellsword Duds in Ironeyes are amazing references to characters like Chancellor Wellager in Dark Souls 2. The recluse heresy magician costume may not be obvious at first glance to call back to Dark Witch Carla, but it’s fun to watch.
Additionally, details from Software can be found in these armor sets. It’s especially alongside the previous Souls games. A long series of games from software to Eldenling from early days, led by these night towing outfits as a solid memorial.
