Elden Ring: Nightreign Director Says Studio Didn’t Start Out With the Idea of a Roguelike in Mind

In an interview with Gamesradar, Ishizaki revealed that Eldenling: NightFreg During its development, the title has now been comparable to games in the Roguelike genre.

“We didn’t say a game that features a lot of random elements, such as ‘We’re aiming to build Roguelike’,” Ishizaki said. “That’s not necessarily a jump point in the design of a game. That’s what I’m trying to say: it was the result of feeling the gameplay and structure and understanding what the best solution to a particular problem was, or what didn’t make sense in terms of where that particular gameplay element was heading at the time.”

“So, again, these are very coincidence factors, but more answers and solutions to problems than actual game design templates and axis.”

Eldenling: NightFreg It was released last week on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and was quickly a huge success. The title was able to acquire over 313,000 simultaneous players on the first day on Steam alone. Earlier this week, FromSoftware addressed some of the concerns players have about online matchmaking in the game. The studio’s statement was minimal, but provided troubleshooting steps players can take to improve their matchmaking experience.

Ishizaki has also spoken about how to do this before. Eldenling: NightFreg It’s an experimental title for Studio, and it’s the first time Software has created a multiplayer-only game. The studio is also working on Switch 2 exclusively for multiplayer only. duskbloodsIshizaki said that nightreign “Please tell us how players feel about this type of game and this type of new challenge for us.”
